GRTA approves McIntosh Village next to PTCTue, 12/12/2006 - 5:01pm
By: John Munford
The Georgia Regional Transportation Authority Monday issued a conditional approval to the 3,000-home “McIntosh Village” proposed for eastern Coweta County, abutting Peachtree City on the west side of Line Creek, the border between the two counties. Among the various requirements is that the bridge over Line Creek for the extension of TDK Boulevard be built to accommodate four lanes of traffic. Peachtree City officials had planned for the bridge to handle two lanes, and it’s not likely the city will get enough right of way to make the TDK Extension four lanes sometime in the future, city officials have said. At Thursday night’s meeting of the Peachtree City Council, Mayor Harold Logsdon said the TDK Boulevard Extension project would remain two lanes. GRTA spokesman William Mecke said expanding TDK to four lanes — if necessary — is in the state’s long-range transportation plan if the right of way were acquired. GRTA has the power to withhold approval of some transportation projects in Peachtree City should the agency’s required improvements for the McIntosh Village project not be completed, Mecke said. The city can override this power of GRTA with a three-fourths majority vote of the city council, Mecke confirmed. Also, Peachtree City has the right to appeal GRTA’s requirements, Mecke said. GRTA’s requirements affecting Peachtree City roads all have to do with TDK Boulevard. The agency wants a minimum of 80 feet of right of way between Line Creek and Ga. Highway 74. The agency also wants a traffic signal to replace the current four-way stop at the intersection of TDK Boulevard and Dividend Drive in the industrial park when necessary to handle the increased amount of traffic projected from the McIntosh Village development. login to post comments |
