Just in time for the holiday shopping season, Best Buy will be opening its stores in Peachtree City and Newnan this morning at 10 a.m.

The Peachtree City store only had a few items left to take care of on its punch list from building inspections, city building inspector Tom Carty said Monday evening.

The Peachtree City store, at just under 30,000 sq. ft., is located along Ga. Highway 54 just west of the CSX railroad bridge. It joins the nearby Wal-Mart and Home Depot as the major large-scale corporate stores in the area.

The store will be roughly a third of the size of the Best Buy in the Fayette Pavilion.

The store is located adjacent to the cemetery for the former Line Creek Baptist Church, which was built in 1875. The landscaping for the cemetery is not yet complete.

The City did a great job with controlling the look of the Best Buy building. Kudos to them. Keep up the good work.

I agree that the Best Buy building is a plus for our town. Thank you for Mayor Steve Brown, the staff and the council for your long hours in making it happen.

Fran, you are a sweet lady who means well and we all love you. Really. But dear, Steve Brown had no more to do with making Best Buy happen than my wife gave birth to kittens this morning, and remember, I am a Watchdog.

The free market, capitalism, risk taking, competition, supply and demand---THAT is what brought Best Buy to PTC. Steve Brown was mayor at the time, but certainly is not to be credited for it.

And you are right, they did a nice job for a big box. No disagreement there.

Please Miss Fran, give credit where it is due. But don't heap praise where it does not belong.

Arf.

Fran, last time I checked it was our City Planner, City Staff and Planning Commission that are responsible for approving building design in our city. You see, that's what their jobs are under our City's ordinances. Our Mayor and Council have nothing to do with this; they are responsible for the underlying land use plan/zoning map and, if I recall correctly, this site was zoned under the prior administration.

Great job Staff. Thanks for taking care of aesthetics in PTC. The building is beautiful.
