A brand new house in the Centennial subdivision caught fire early Friday morning, but the flames were extinguished before the blaze spread far, according to Peachtree City Fire Chief Stony Lohr.

The fire at 821 Richmond Circle was limited to the kitchen area, although there was additional heat damage in other areas of the home, Lohr said.

No one had yet moved into the home, Lohr said. Because the home had hardi-plank siding, it kept the fire from spreading to an adjacent house, he noted.

The cause of the fire is believed to be electrical in nature, Lohr said. The fire was called in by a neighbor who lives down the street at about 12:34 a.m., and when the first crews arrived there were flames showing through the exterior of the home, he added.

The Centennial subdivision is being developed by John Wieland Homes.

It seems that once again the Peachtree City Fire Department was able to put a tremendous stop on a house fire that had a pretty good head start. We are very fortunate that the neighbors were alert enough to call it in given the time of night that the fire occurred. Kudos to our dedicated professionals that protect our lives and property every hour of every day!
