The "Debate"

nuk's picture

According to our present Mayor, he's showing up at McIntosh high school whether front-runner Harold Logsdon does or doesn't. Good, let Steve tilt at windmills one last time in public before he's defeated and sent back to the sidelines where he can yell and scream about all the rampant corruption that he has no proof of, slander some dead people, and in general make an ass of himself.

Why a front-runner who got almost double the votes of a 2nd place finisher would agree to a thrown-together debate is beyond me or political wisdom. Logsdon would be dense to participate. He has nothing to gain. He'll gain more by staying at home and letting Steve once again embarass himself with silly grandstanding.

"Do it for the young people?" Huh? The young people have had plenty of time to attend the candidate forums and meet the candidates before now. You say that you aren't sure where Logsdon stands on a particular issue? Well guess what, that's by design. Logsdon is simply running a platform that he's not Steve Brown and will handle any issue professionally. That's good enough for me and expect for most people who bother to vote in the runoff. That's what most people have as an expectation of a Mayor in the first place. If we wanted a clown, we'd go to the circus. If we expected miracles from a Mayor, we wouldn't be voting for mere mortals. You vote for the person who you think can handle the very limited responsibilites of being PTC Mayor. Just don't screw things up! It's not asking for a lot.

Brown is getting desparate because he's about to be out of the spotlight finally, and no longer *representing the average homeowner/residents of Peachtree City* Thank God for that!

That was plenty to let me know he didn't deserve to be Mayor of PTC.

Logsdon should Open the Process Up. My primary concern with Harold Logsdon refusing to debate is that it indicates how he will perform as Mayor. It indicates that his meetings will not be open to public participation. Public participation is a change in PTC in the last four years under Mayor Steve Brown. Unlike Lenox, Brown did not shout people down like Bob Lenox with “This is my meeting”. Second, it indicates that Logsdon will prefer closed door meetings rather than the Open Meetings required by law. He is wrong that he has given enough information. I have gone to the forums, read his literature and read his website. he and his high paid political consultants ignore emails. He offers “goals without solutions” as one writer commented. For example, he says he is in favor of “fiscal responsibility”. Who isn’t ? Do you know any candidates that favor fiscal irresponsibility? But exactly how will you do that? He proposes to increase spending and decrease taxes. But he won’t tell us how. Logsdon’s refusal to debate signals a return to the closed government of the past.

I have also experienced the lack of response from Harold Logsdon. I wrote him twice asking 4 simple questions. No response until I wrote to the Citizen about his lack of response. So think what you want, but it tells me he could care less about me the average PTC citizen, and with the 12 hours a week he plans to spend on city business if he is elected, none of you should ever expect a response either and it gets better. Then I thought well maybe he will respond if I send an email asking how I could contribute to his campaign. Sure enough an email was returned right away! Hum..... Imagine that, this is not intended to sling mud or call names, just state the facts and only the facts!

LOGSDON WON’T: Logsdon won’t return emails (unless you offer $ [ask Sandy Sue abaove]); Logsdon won’t show for a debate; Logsdon won’t offer any details in his campaign.

LOGSDON WILL: Logsdon will take your campaign contributions and those of the Dev Auth crowd that seek monetary relief; Logsdon will send his campaign finance manager to the debate; Logsdon will equal any dirty campaigning alleged by anyone else; Logsdon will appear at a fundraiser; Logsdon will pay his contributors bills when he gets in office.

I don't even know Harold Logdson personally but I can tell you this:
the guy has been campaigning for well over a year and has been readily available to anyone who has a question. Even the phone message we all got yesterday gave us his home and cell numbers.

Did you see who his contributors were? A whole lot of folks nobody ever heard of each of who gave $100. And by the way, any gifts of $100 or less DO NOT have to be reported, but Logsdon reported it anyway. Hardly a sinister move there, wouldn't you say?

Logsdon is available, he's honest, he's forthright and best of all, he's not Steve Brown. And he's going to be the next mayor, so quit your phony blathering and get over it.

You know,it's designed to be a part time mayor. Only Steve Brown decided to make it fulltime. There is a reason we have a City Manager and City Staff, to run the city. Not a novel concept. Brown has lots of time to spend with each of you. If that is what matters, then by all means reelect him. But if truth, integrity, and ethics matter, look elsewhere. Brown has failed on all those issues. Problem is that Brown has created the impression that it's a fulltime position. NOT SO!! Check the city charter. It only pays $9000 per year for a reason. We need to turn the position back to what it's designed to be. If we want a fulltime mayor, we need to pay fulltime salary. Since the City Manager makes well over $100,000 per year, what would a fulltime mayor be entitled to? And before you say "see what a bargain Brown is?" remember the old adage "you get what you pay for."

Appearantly you haven't been there for the really "fun" council meetings. When Brown is actually backed into a corner (easy to do) he will quickly shut down the discussion. Oh, when he is reminded of his "promise" of open meetings he tends to finally back down, but he can't stand to be argued with. He will "answer" questions with either no comment at all or "well,we agree to disagree." But hardly open meetings. Brown is an arrogant self centered liar. Deal with it.

Saying that Logsdon would prefer illegal closed meetings is ludicrous. I don't know of any candidate who is in favor of violating the law, especially one that is so obvious when it is broken.
