Police: Quick clothes change doesn’t help suspects A well-dressed jewelry thief and his getaway driver were arrested by Peachtree City police Wednesday afternoon after stealing a $30,000 ring from a store at The Avenue shopping center, police said. The duo even stopped after the heist to briefly change clothes, but the jewelry store owner, Bill McDonald, helped police locate the suspects by following them in his car, police said. McDonald used a bystander’s cellphone to call 911, informing dispatchers of the suspects’ vehicle description and direction of travel, police said. Police Sgt. Mark Brown then spotted the vehicle near Crosstown Road moments before other officers intercepted the vehicle on Ga. Highway 74 south near the baseball and soccer complex, police said. The suspects were arrested without incident, police said. The 3.5 carat diamond ring was found under the passenger’s seat of the vehicle, police said. The suspects were identified as Randy Lavern Lowe, 26, of Beckwith Street, Atlanta and Thomas Lee Hunt Jr., 28, of Hollywood Road, Atlanta. Both were positively identified as having participated in the heist, police said. Lowe and Hunt were charged with one felony count of theft by taking. One of the suspects ran from the store after the clerk gave him the ring, and the two took off in a silver Oldsmobile, police said. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Peachtree City police at 770-487-8866. login to post comments |
