Does anyone know anything about the letter that was sent home today? Are our children safe?

Dear Parents/Guardians:
Today the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department arrested a young man for bringing weapons on campus.
School administrators were notified by the secretarial staff that two young men were trying to check out a student without parental permission. When the young men were asked to leave campus they were very hesitant to leave. The Whitewater administration took the appropriate steps to safely investigate what the two young men were doing on campus. The two young men’s explanations raised tremendous suspension (sic) by the administration which ultimately lead to the search of the individuals and the automobile which brought them on our campus. This search subsequently led to the finding of weapons and led to an arrest.
At no time were students in any danger. Please be assured that all possible steps are taken everyday (sic) to create a safe learning environment for our students.
The safety of our students is one of our top priorities. Please take this opportunity to remind your child about the safety issues and consequences of bringing weapons to school This is outlined in the Student Code of which every student received a copy at the beginning of the school year. The Student Code of Conduct is also on the school system’s website, www.fcboe.org.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Gregory W. Stillions
Principal

I stayed home today. But, I did call another teacher and found out that it was some Jonesboro boys trying to get some girl out of class. I've already sent this response once, but have no idea of where it went, so, if it posts twice....sorry.

said that 2 people were trying to get students to open doors on the 1000 hall during 2nd period. Someone told a teacher who told them to go around to the front office, that's when I guess the checking out the student came into play. It really scares you (as a parent) for your child to feel like his school is going to be another Columbine. His words were, 2 incidents and we are only in the 1st semester... Makes you wonder.

From what I heard, two men from CC tried to check-out a student but weren't on the list. This, along with their behavior, raised a suspicious eyebrow, resulting in their car being searched and a weapon being found. Good job WHS faculty and staff!
