Sen. Kerry dishonors all volunteer soldiers

By: Letters to the ...

Senator John Kerry puts his foot into his mouth almost every time he opens it. His latest insult to our brave men and women serving in the armed forces, and in particular Iraq and Afghanistan, reveals his elitist and arrogant character.

My son, an enlisted Army reservist and college graduate, has served three tours in the Middle East, even volunteering to serve the third tour.

His son, a college graduate and Air Force officer, is presently serving his second deployment.

Neither of these men was obligated to be in the service. Each is a patriotic volunteer who cares for his country and its freedoms; neither was educationally deprived, nor school dropouts as Kerry insinuates.

Kerry is a disgrace to the Naval uniform he wore in Vietnam and the medals he later threw away. God bless President Bush.

When will the people of Massachusetts wake up and kick Kerry out of office so the rest of the nation can breathe pride in our nation?

Obviously this story got all the traction it could possibly. And it was not enough to sway the minds of Americans. "Why" you ask?

1) Curious military men like myself, my father, my uncles, and many of my active duty Air Force co-workers viewed this statement in context. Kerry can't tell a joke, and as the AP originally reported, these statements were clearly aimed at President Bush.

2) Most Americans do not really think President Bush wants us to "put food on our families," that he believes OBGYNs want to "practice love for their patients," that terrorists are constantly looking for ways to hurt America, and so are we.
A gaff is a gaff, and the "outrage" over and contextual shift of Kerry's statements, to warriors such as myself, seems silly.

Here's what I see in Kerry: A man who, like myself, has been in combat. A man that has seen and done things in combat that noone should wish to do to other humans. Think of other men on capitol hill who have that unique perspective and mark of authenticity. It's quite interesting when you break war veterans down by party. You don't get the numbers you would expect, do you? alot of deferments on the "Gung ho" side of the isle. Just as you attack Kerry, Veteran Murtha has been called a cut and run coward. You remember don't you? By shrieking Jean Schmidt who has never donned a uniform. Max Cleland was attacked right here at home for his political stripes. Every General that called for Rumsfeld's resignation have been attacked as partisans. I have even heard Colin Powell attacked by the right as being too reluctant a warrior.... by people WHO AREN'T WARRIORS!
You can choose to feel Mr. Kerry is a disgrace to the uniform, but please use the correct context: That is YOUR opinion NOT shared by ALL of US actually IN the uniform. I just wish more of our political leaders had served. They would have a valuable perspective of what war looks like in person, and not on television.

Very well put. Just to add my "two cents," I have been wondering where the outrage is over Bush making light of the failure to find WMD's when he did his little "song and dance" at the Press Club Roast. They took pictures of him looking around the Oval Office and his narrative was "No WMD's here, what about over here? Nope, not here either." Funny? I guess if you aren't in Iraq or have a loved one who died over there. But certainly "tacky." Not finding the WMD's certainly isn't a "good thing." If a Dem had done that comedy routine they would have been crucified.
I am also waiting for the outrage over Rummie's comment "you go to war with the Army you have, not the Army you want or wish you had." Doesn't seem to speak highly of our Army, yet no outrage. If a Dem had said that they would have been crucified.
The Repubs are fond of pointing out that the terrorists wanted a Dem House and Senate. That's because they have been told for 3 years that the Dems are "soft on terrorism." And this belief is dangerous for our troops. Funny thing is, I haven't heard any Dem say they are "soft" on defense, or we should "cut and run," only the Repubs. They keep saying that regardless of the truth, then blame the Dems because the terrorists hold that belief. They only are told that by Repubs. Maybe there ought to be some outrage about those misleading statements.
Anyway, my two cents.

It's nice to know I'm not alone in a sea of one opinion here in PTC. Thanks. I use to ignore the Citizen because it seemed so partisan, until happening across a Letter to the Editor written by Timothy Parker. Scary knowledge of history that one has, but an entertaining and educating read. Keep up the counter point. At least it keeps a partial balance of blog powers.

Cheers,

The liberal bloggers (such as yourself and birdman) out number conservatives about 5 to 1 on here despite living in an area where conservatives out number liberals about 4 to 1.

Thus, Westmoreland wins in a landslide in he real world despite being written off on these blogs.
___________
Since you have asked a few folks -
I no longer live in Fayette County. I closed on my property and am happily retired for the second time. I will be moving to San Diego to live near my son.

I have tried to stay off of the blogs and feel better for it.

In case you are interested- RightOnTheMoney is back in Iraq, he was called back to his unit four months early for a second tour.

San Diego is the most beautiful city in the US as far as I'm concerned. If you hit Mission Beach, skip a pebble into the Pacific for me. That's what I always do there. Safe travels for you and your wife. I wish we had the chance to share that cup of coffee, but know that you'll be in my prayers, as will Rightonthemoney.
I wish I was flying cover for him. I know he will serve proudly. He's got to return safe and soon to keep the kids off of the laptop Smiling. God Bless, and hopefully you'll keep logging on.
