TDK deal: Line Creek bridge to come firstTue, 11/07/2006 - 4:12pm
By: John Munford
Don’t start the asphalt machines just yet, but the complicated land deal that will allow TDK Boulevard to be extended from Peachtree City into Coweta County has been consummated. The closing documents were signed Thursday afternoon, officials said. A $2 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration was used to acquire land from Planterra Ridge Golf Club, a segment which will become part of Falcon Field Airport. The grant was necessary so the land, which comprises parts of three golf holes at Planterra Ridge, could be protected from future development as it is necessary for a runway safety area. The runway safety area gives extra room on takeoff and landing for planes in case of an emergency, explained Airport Manager John Crosby. The new path for the TDK Extension will loop around the runway safety area. Fayette County Public Works Director Lee Hearn said it might take a year or more for construction to start since the three new golf holes at Planterra Ridge Golf Club must be ready to play on before crews can begin grading and other related work. One part of the project won’t be held up by the golf holes, though, Hearn said: The bridge that will span Line Creek. Hearn said he expected to begin the bidding process to choose a contractor to handle that part of the project. Land contiguous to the golf course was acquired from Pathway Communities to relocate the golf holes. In return, Pathway was negotiating a deal that would insure a land-locked parcel it owns adjacent to Line Creek and the proposed Lake McIntosh reservoir would have access to the TDK road extension. Details of the closing were not available by press time Tuesday afternoon. login to post comments |
