Patriots, Panthers and War Eagles get big region wins

After some not so good results the week before, Sandy Creek and Starr’s Mill picked up region wins on Friday, while Landmark Christian continued to roll in region play.

In region 6-AAA, the Patriots (5-3, 2-3 region) defeated Haralson County 37-7. Sandy Creek went up 10-0 after the first quarter thanks to a 29 yard field goal from Kody Green and a 21 yard touchdown run from Bradley Bush. They added another touchdown in the second quarter when Josh Williams ran 13 yards for a score. Bush scored his second touchdown of the night in the third quarter with a 16 yard run. The Patriots scored two more times in the fourth quarter.
Once when Anthony Brown powered his way to a one yard touchdown run and once when quarterback Rico Johnson connected on an 11 yard pass with Andrew Locke. Bush was the team’s leading rusher with 87 yards and two touchdowns.

The Sandy Creek defense was stifling, holding Haralson County to a total of 83 yards. Russell Bonner blocked a punt in the game and Zach Hilton intercepted a pass. Robert Jaracz was the team’s leading tackler with nine total tackles.

In 2-AAAA, Starr’s Mill (5-3, 3-3 region) took on Woodward Academy on the road and won 45-7. The Panthers got a big boost from Brandon Witta and Greg Davis, two tailbacks who had been out for most of the year. Witta rushed for over 100 yards and caught a touchdown pass, while Davis rushed for four touchdowns. Starr’s Mill’s first points of the night came from a 27 yard field goal from Jonathan Whitlow. Eric Pitts followed it up by catching a pass from quarterback Robby Davis and running 66 ayrds for the score. After Pitts, touchdown, Robby Davis threw the touchdown pass to Witta and though Woodward scored on their next possession, the night belonged to Starr’s Mill. In the second half, Greg Davis scored three rushing touchdowns in the third quarter and one more in the fourth.

In other region 2-AAAA games, Northgate blanked McIntosh( 0-8, 0-6 region) 16-0 and Fayette County (1-7, 0-6 region) lost to Banneker 36-20. Northgate jumped out to an early 13-0 lead, scoring those points in the first quater. McIntosh’s defense then tightened up and only allowed a field goal.

Fayette County had 300 yards rushing with Matt Daniels compiling 160 himself while scoring three touchdowns. He now has 15 touchdowns on the season and has rushed for 900 yards. Brandon Boykin added 113 yards rushing in the game. On defense, the Tigers were led by Travis Mihalik, 13 total tackles and Chisom Onyeuku with 10 total tackles. Fayette County made three turnovers and two mistakes on special teams that were costly.

Fayette County and McIntosh meet on Friday.

In region 5-A, Landmark moved to 6-2 on the season and 3-0 in region play after a 49-14 victory over Mt. Pisgah. The muddy night belonged to senior running back Brian Lee who broke the single game rushing record (previously held by Coach Durand Rice) with 243 yards on 14 carries and three touchdowns. Seniors Matt Moody, Trey Strickland, Mike Geeslin, and Will Geeslin also scored rushing touchdowns. Defensively the War Eagles held their opponents to 26 yards on 25 plays with no points in the first half.

Linebacker Luke Griffith tallied five tackles and one interception that he returned to the three yard line. Sophomore Blake Wyatt ended the night with eight tackles and one interception. Landmark wll host Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy Chargers for the Region 5 championship.

Our Lady of Mercy (1-7, 0-3 region) faced Whitefiled Academy and lost 38-0. The Bobcats had a total of 165 yards of offense. Defensively, the team was led by Christian Brow, who had nine tackles, while Chris Gair and Matt Forbes each added seven.
The Bobcats will take on Fellowship Christian on Friday.

Is this the same Woodward that Starr’s Mill took on on the road and beat 45-7?

What's the matter 'Wildcats'? Did the check to pay off the official for the Starr's Mill Game bounce or something? Meow. Pricelessssssssssssss
