Secretary of State race

Okay, I have been reading up on the candidates for Secretary of State and I truly don't know who to choose. On the one hand, Karen Handel has a clear plan for addressing election security and voter ID issues but two words . . . Fulton County.

Gail Buckner acknowledges that some work will have to be done on election security and voter ID issues but she seems to be relying on her overall legislative experience. She doesn't have much of a plan.

Kevin Madsen is the Libertarian candidate. That is all I have been able to find out about him or his positions. So, that doesn't give me much of a choice.

Why should we care about that office? The office oversees elections (the integrity of which promises to be a critical issue in the next 2 years). Also the Secretary of State deals with corporate and non-profit filings. If we get the wrong person in that office, Georgia could end up looking more corrupt than a typical banana republic.

What to do . . . what to do?

Karen has accomplished a lot in her tenure at Fulton County. She uncovered corruption in the Tax Assessors office, determined that the Sheriff had illegally invested over $7 million in tax payers money. Cut taxes, reduced spending, all while in the minority on the commission. She is the only candidate in the race that has offered detailed plans of how she would like to improve the office.

There are libertarian candidates for the majority of the top state offices. I consider these candidates as viable alternatives, with sound messages, to the sameness of the republicans and democrats.

Let us consider people who are willing to limit the size of government and the resulting intrusions into our lives.

They don't wish to "limit," they wish to destroy government and govern one house at a time. That is, until they need something like protection from invaders or civil war, or some roads built, or the poor taken care of, or help with crop failures, or, stopping the local lynchings, or, or, or....... Stupid stuff. What they want (libertarians) is like asking for control of the world, when all you really want is for YOU to be left alone!

Libertarian politics have NEVER focused on "destroying government." That's more for the anarachists.

Even rabid libertarians agree that there are certain areas where government is required, national defense/security being one of them.

I can tell from some of your other posts here that you are a "liberal" and that is going to mean you obviously hate the thought of libertarianism even more the biggest fundamentalist Bible-thumper. Libertarians and "liberal Democrats" don't agree on much whatsoever.

I’m totally fed up with the two party system. So I decided to check out the libertarian party. Went to Garrett M Hayes (Candidate for Governor)site to check him out. He said if there were any questions unanswered he’d welcome contact. So I e-mailed him 2 weeks ago. Still no answer. Hard to take them (Libertarians) seriously if you can’t get answers from them. I guess they think they don’t have a chance so why bother ?

Well maybe because it has become the staging area for a run for the Governor of Georgia, that's why.

As far as who to vote for - Buckner is against voter ID (hint, hint she's a Democrat) and Handel is for voter ID. Handel was and is a North Fulton County person and ran that commission better than most.
