More planned for TDK-Crosstown areaThu, 10/26/2006 - 3:33pm

Several more projects are in the hopper for south Peachtree City to coincide with plans to extend TDK Boulevard into Coweta County. In addition to the widening of Ga. Highway 74 that’s already underway, the DOT will also improve the intersection of Hwy. 74 and Crosstown Road, which feeds directly onto TDK Boulevard. Design and concept work is already underway for intersection improvements at the intersection of Crosstown Drive and Peachtree Parkway. And in 2008, design work will begin for two more projects: a traffic light and right turn lanes at the intersection of TDK Boulevard and Dividend Drive; and intersection improvements for Crosstown Drive and Robinson Road. Also in 2008 is design work for a frontage road off Dividend Drive that would provide access to multiple parcels. Further down the road in the “long range” category is a plan to widen Crosstown Road. But that couldn’t happen until 2011 at the earliest because it is not yet funded in the state’s transportation improvement program, according to City Manager Bernie McMullen. The projects were discussed at last week’s City Council meeting. Councilwoman Judi-ann Rutherford said she wanted staff to keep in mind that Oak Grove Elementary is located right off Crosstown Drive and speeding is already a problem near the school. “We need to be aware of this problem before we add more traffic to it,” Rutherford said, suggesting more police patrols and looking at reducing the 35 mph speed limit. login to post comments |
