Palmetto Police are seeking two men wanted for aggravated armed robbery in an Oct. 9 hold-up at the Shell station at 400 Carlton Road. The men kicked the store clerk and struck him with a handgun after he complied with their order to lie on the floor.

Officers Mike Simpson and Richard Cheek responded to the robbery call at approximately 10 p.m., where they observed the store clerk bleeding from the head, said Det. John Cooper. The clerk told police two men entered the store with their faces partially covered. One of the men was armed with a handgun, possibly a 9 mm, while the other was armed with a shotgun, Cooper said.

The men forced the clerk behind the counter and instructed him to turn over the store’s money, said Cooper. The clerk opened the cash register and was ordered to lay on the floor behind the counter while the armed men went through the register. Though he complied with their orders, both men approached the clerk and assaulted him. The clerk was struck in the face with the handgun and was kicked in the head and abdomen by both subjects as he lay on the floor, Cooper said.

Both men soon fled the store on foot, heading east through the parking lot.

Cooper said the store clerk is recovering from the injuries he sustained.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Det. John Cooper at (770) 463-9068.

Is that store is right across from the police dept. I guess all the cops were out dealing with all of the mexicans that have raided Palmetto. When you ride through there for a moment you think this is what it would be like to live in Mexico...

I don't know about Palmetto, but I know that in Fayetteville and Peachtree City, after 5pm, there is rarely anyone *at* the police station. They're all out on the road, answering calls and doing patrols. Someone could (conceivably) be murdered right in the parking lot and the officers would have to come from other parts of the city to answer the call. An armed robbery happening across the street from the police department is NOT the officer's fault.

The best place to commit a crime in PTC is on the cart paths. They are never ....and I mean never patrolled. Unless we get starbucks to open up shop in middle of the nature preserve, they never will be patrolled.(and then we better beg them to give the cops free drinks or we are still SOL)

Ask any teenager in the city they will tell you it is the best place to sell and use drugs, it is the best way to commit vandalism, and never, never get caught.

It has nothing to do with being close to the police station, just use the cart paths and you will never get caught.

After 5pm you will see police cars patrolling buisness parking lots, but if you are in a neighborhood with crime....good luck....buy a gun....you are on your own.

Proximity to a police station does not mean crime is not going to happen. Do you WANT the officers to sit around waiting for a call, or would you rather them be out in the community? And if you do want someone sitting at the station, are you willing to fight city hall (literally) for more officers? They're understaffed as it is.

I got your point the first time, I know the criminals pick locations close to the police depts. because they know it will take them a while to get there. I know that most depts. are understaffed due to the amount of crime. Further more..I don't expect them to sit around at the station waiting on something to happen close by.

most depts. are understaffed due to the amount of crime

And I think most departments are understaffed because those in charge of the budget do not consider it important enough to pay a reasonable salary or hire enough officers. For instance, in PTC. The mayor thinks he and the city council should be making double what they make now. And yet he cuts the pay/benefits of the police officers (and other city workers). Crime in PTC is relatively low, I think in part BECAUSE of the officers we have. Keeping the quality and quantity up will help supress crime. Understaffing the police dept will LEAD to more crime.

But again, as my name implies, this is just IMNSHO.
