One Good Reason

Give me one good reason we can't vote a split ticket in a primary election. For that matter, shouldn't we be able to vote for our choices in each party in every primary race? Just seems to make sense. Why is it not so?

Thanks for your reply, but it doesn't answer. People raise hell about Republicans making straight ticket primary voting mandatory, requiring loyalty oaths, and gerrymandering, but I recall the Democrats doing those same things in their day.
Why can't we vote a split-ticket primary? Who sets the rules, the County? the State? How do we get the ball rolling for change? Does anyone know... or care?
