PTC history help

PTC History's picture

I know our city does not have much history compared to most but I was exploring earlier and had some questions.

1. How many people used to live on Huddleston and Dividend Drive. It appears that some people still live in older homes there.

2. I saw an old map that said had the name of the town or city of Kedron. Any info on the history of Kedron?

3. How about Shakerag?

Thanks!

Next time you're in the tax office, pick up one of the "History of Fayette County" pamphlets they have there. I think they're $1 which I believe goes to the Historical Society.

Counties were divided up into "Districts" in the unincorporated areas, which included their own polling precinct, Justice of the Peace, etc. In Fayette County, these included Shakerag, Hopeful, Kenwood, Blackrock, Kedron, Europe, etc. The incorporated areas used their own names such as Brooks, Tyrone, Fayetteville. You also had unincorporated towns such as Inman & Woolsey. There were other areas such as Rest, Starrs Mill, Flatcreek, and Aberdeen.

You may still see some of the little concrete block structures around which were build by the county as voting precincts in the 40's or 50's... one in each district. Incorporated areas used public buildings or churches

As the population grew, addition precincts were added to accomodate the expansion. I think we're up to about 34 or 35 today.

I'm sure this isn't 100% correct, but it's close. Someone can correct me where needed.

I will get you some accurate history. My family has been here for 5+ generations. My Grandmother can fill pages and pages with more information than most of can forget. I will get back to you on this one.

You should consider setting up a video camera on your Grandmother and asking her questions. You will be amazed how has 2 or 3 hours goes by.

I'm looking forward to this.

Why not make it a series of blog-installments based on what you learn from your grandmother?
