Kedron Elementary School in Peachtree City has been named a national “Blue Ribbon” school by the U.S. Department in Education.

The award is given to schools whose students achieve in the top 10 percent on state tests and also to certain schools which have at least 40 percent of their students coming disadvantaged backgrounds that dramatically improve student performance to high levels on the state test.

Kedron was only one of six schools in the entire state to achieve the “Blue Ribbon” designation. State School Superintendent Kathy Cox, a former teacher at nearby McIntosh High School, announced the winning schools at Thursday’s meeting of the Georgia Board of Education.

“I am so proud of the teachers, administrators and students at these schools,” Cox said. “They are getting tremendous results from all of their students in every grade and truly deserve recognition as Blue Ribbon Schools.”

Other Georgia schools winning the “Blue Ribbon” designation are Alexander II magnet school in Bibb County, Dawson County High School, Main Elementary School in Rome, Robert A. Cross Middle Magnet School in Dougherty County and Savannah Arts Academy in Chatham County.

To all the teachers at these schools. It is a tremendous accomplishment. All the students should be proud for bringing up the test scores. Thank you teachers!
