Fayette County School Lines Being Re-drawn

Dear Parents of Fayette County middle school and high school students,

We're approximately 2 weeks away from the Fayette County Board of Education unvailing the redrawn maps at it's October 16th meeting. They're giving the parents (tax payers)of the county until October 10th to submit your feedback over thier website @ http://www.fcboe.org/

Do you want your kids moved out of thier current school? ... are you bordering on any of the school lines? Do you want your home to depreciate in value if the school they choose for your children is considered "less desirable" than the one they are currntly in?

You better get involved and be heard. Submit your comments via their website this week! I encourage everyone to attend the school board meeting as well. Details on the website.

As I stated elsewhere, I have a child at FCHS. To be perfectly honest, I don't believe it matters where in Fayette County she goes, it's going to be the same stuff, different location. There are gangs at FCHS, WHS, McIntosh (which I've heard from my daughter is becoming known as McIn-trash)....I'm just thankful that my daughter & son (@ FIS) are receiving good educations and we are grateful that they both have caring teachers. You should see what kind of education and issues my sister's kids (who live in Hamilton Mill, Gwinnett County) have to deal with on a daily basis...makes FCHS look like a trip to Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory!

We've crossed lines on several blog topics today and it's encouraging to knwo there are folks like you out there in Fayette County still. And by the way, I graduated from FCHS in the '80s and we called it McIntrash back then too ... some things never change!

This redistricting, as with most, will leave some families unhappy. The reality is the new middle school must be filled with students. Other middle schools are overcrowded and some students will have to leave their existing middle school.

I agree that everyone should send their their comments and concerns to the BOE, but realize that many students will HAVE to be moved.

LET'S SEE:
-- The writer of this post lives near the border between Whitewater and Fayette High
-- The writer of this post has gotten wind of the BOE's plan to shift several hundred students back to FCHS from WHS, to correct the mistake of allowing so many families into Whitewater in the first place.
-- The writer of this post is such a diehard "White" supporter these days, he/she is willing to use racial code words like "undesirable" and "depreciate" to rally his/her "White" neighbors into action.
-- The writer of this post doesn't think his/her "White" kids or yours either should have to change schools. Let somebody else's non-"White" kids move!
-- The writer of this post is so determined to protect his/her "White" way of life, he/she is willing to drive a wedge of lies and distrust right through the heart of the greater community he/she once called home, and further threatening to destroy it.
-- The writer of this post needs to get over it and do the right thing, not the "White" thing.

NewsBoy ... allow me to retort to your "whitey" diatribe.

-- The writer of this post lives near the border between Whitewater and Fayette High

Incorrect assumption Sad

-- The writer of this post has gotten wind of the BOE's plan to shift several hundred students back to FCHS from WHS, to correct the mistake of allowing so many families into Whitewater in the first place.

I’ve not gotten wind of ANY plans, just merely asking people to get involved, ask questions, and make informed arguments on behalf of their children.

-- The writer of this post is such a diehard "White" supporter these days, he/she is willing to use racial code words like "undesirable" and "depreciate" to rally his/her "White" neighbors into action.

To be quite honest, it looks like it’s your agenda to make this a racial issue by, again, making an incorrect assumption that my usage of the word “undesirable” has something to do with the color of ones skin. Sad Do you realize how silly this makes you look? Undesirable could mean ANYBODY. The truth is that some schools are better than others in the county. This is not a perception, its reality and it’s also public record!

-- The writer of this post doesn't think his/her "White" kids or yours either should have to change schools. Let somebody else's non-"White" kids move!

Again, your perception that everyone who wants their children to stay put for the sake of their children’s current growth and learning and where they thought their kids would go to school before they bought their expensive house and pay handsome taxes is a “white” issue makes you more racist than you can even imagine. I’m actually embarrassed for you. Sad

-- The writer of this post is so determined to protect his/her "White" way of life, he/she is willing to drive a wedge of lies and distrust right through the heart of the greater community he/she once called home, and further threatening to destroy it.

I’m a parent protecting the education path of my children. The path that we were led to believe we were on when we bought here. It’s not only a parents right to do so, it’s also our responsibility. I’m sorry you don’t feel that way. The only “lies and distrust” that exist in this thread are in your own misled, misinformed mind.

-- The writer of this post needs to get over it and do the right thing, not the "White" thing.

The responder of my blog needs to quit playing the “white man just trying to put us down” card Sad and realize that this is about the children. I don’t see the education quality in some schools that I do in the others and it’s evident in the test scores and also in what I hear from other parents that have children in those schools.

Due us a favor Newsboy, “Drop the white, and get things right”

Sorry to have to correct you News"boy", that’s just how I roll. Eye-wink

Anyone who buys a house in a growing county, and doesn't take into consideration that districting lines CAN and DO change, is not very forward-thinking. Unless you live right next to a school, you cannot assume anything.

There are no "bad" Fayette County schools. Some are not as great as others, but none of them are "bad."

IMNSHO -- You managed to sum up in two short lines what I never came clear on in my attempt to be clever: Whatever this original blogger intended by"undesirable" schools, the very idea that you'd not send your kid to any of them is ludicrous! We've got hundreds of parents in neighboring communities BREAKING THE LAW to get their kids into ANY of our schools ... while we rally our neighbors to fight the BOE on redistricting? Instead, why don't we recognize how truly fortunate we are with what we got and do what we can to maintain that level of excellence?

LET'S BE HONEST HERE: Yes, our demographics are changing (just as they are in EVERY county in Metro Atlanta! Have you looked at Gwinnett? Cobb? Hall? Rockdale?) and that's reflected in the changing faces of kids enrolled in our schools ... ALL of our schools! Yet all anybody seems to be talking about is Fayette County High and how "ghetto" it's become and how glad they are that they're kids go to Whitewater! Is there ANYBODY who has not pondered the sad irony in the name "Whitewater High" ... Isn't that really what this is all about?

I haven't. But then I don't reflexively see things in racial terms like you appear to enjoy doing.

IN YOUR USER PHOTO ... STANDING WITH HIS ARM IN NAZI SALUTE, PASTED BEHIND AN IMAGE OF PRESIDENT BUSH ....WAVING? THE SAME HITLER WHO PLOTTED AND ALMOST SUCCEEDED IN WIPING AN ENTIRE RACE OF PEOPLE FROM THE PLANET? HITLER, THE MOST EVIL RACIST OF THE PAST CENTURY?

Well then I guess you don't "reflexively" see things in racial terms ... but instead see EVERYTHING in racial terms? Is that more fun?

MY GOODMESS! You thought my use of the proper noun "White"was implying race? BLESS YOUR HEART! No, it was an abbreviation for "Families Living in the Whitewater High School Attendance Zone Cluster"... I even capitalized it for crying out loud! How much clearer is that? I never brought up black or white or socioeconmoics or test performance. But you sure jumped to conlusions quickly and came out swinging at me! Are you so thin-skinned on this issue? No, the only connection I made between you and racism was an obvious one -- your choice of the word "undesirables" to describe children you do not want your children going to school with! Argue all you want, but truth is that in America today, that word is used almost exclusively by whites to describe blacks and other minorities. And the truth hurts!

SO WHO IS THE RACIST?

You clearly meant the word "White" to refer to white people. You even said "do the right thing, not the "White" thing". You were being a smarty pants. Sad At least be honest about it.

HERE'S THE MAIN DEFINITION:
1. a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.
2. a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.
3. hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.

Of course "White" was in reference to the many white families that I know and you know and EVERYBODY knows who did anything they could to make sure their kids got into the WHS zone ... all because of the widespread fear that FCHS was doomed to go the way of Riverdale

Now, Whitewater is at capacity while FCHS is one-third empty -- with a noticeably larger percentage of minority students -- because they redistricted so many white families south! And now it's some of those same white parents I now hear sitting around at ballgames and church functions feeding the rumor mill and shamelessly bragging about how glad their kids don't have to go to FCHS ...and preparing to fight the BOE if it tries to shift some neighborhoods back and "fix" what should never have been allowed in the first place!

Seeing as how I'm white, and they're white ... HOW AM I RACIST?

Before you go on another rant against Whitewater High School, you might want to keep in mind that some WHS marching band members are going on that FCHS Rose Bowl trip that almost fell through as a way to help out.

And before you assume (something you seem to do), I don't have kids at WHS or FCHS.

Any time redistricting comes up, people get upset and they get vocal. Nobody wants to see their child start out at one high school, make friends and get involved, only to be switched to another high school midstream. It's not always about race.

WHS...FCHS..McIntosh......what's the difference? Really and truly you get good and bad in all schools, no matter where they are.

My daughter is really happy at FCHS and it isn't over-crowded. She got all the classes she wanted, makes A's & B's, is involved in school sports, has great friends and loves her teachers. What more could I ask for?
