Steve Brown's picks

Landmark (2-2) @ Bowdon (4-1)
Landmark is going to have a tough time with Bowdon. I have to pick this one straight off the record, it’s BOWDEN.

McIntosh (0-4) vs. Starr's Mill (3-2)
Unless the STARR’S MILL team completely falls apart, they should take it with little fuss. McIntosh is just having a difficult time matching up with their opponents on speed and size. They have got get some bigger kids in the system.

OLM (1-3) vs. Glascock Co. (1-4)
No matter how I pick the Our Lady of Mercy game, I am wrong. I have picked OLM to win three times, and they lost, and I picked them to lose and they won. It has become known as the “No Mercy on Brown” jinx. So, as a favor to OLM, I am going with GLASCOCK COUNTY. They can thank me later.

Sandy Creek (3-1) @ Cartersville (3-1)
I was surprised at Sandy Creek losing to Villa Rica last week. They had been playing steady, good fundamental football. Cartersville is a tough team, and they have been very successful, even with one of the toughest schedules in high school football. Only undefeated Buford managed to skirt by the Purple Hurricanes (Who comes up with these names?) 28-25 resulting in Cartersville’s sole loss for the season so far. Based upon teams played and the results, CARTERVILLE will take it.

Whitewater (3-2) @ Banneker (1-3)
Banneker is no Westlake, and to my surprise Whitewater handled Westlake well last week. WHITEWATER gets another mark in the “W” column.

UGA vs. Tennessee
God have mercy on the Dawgs. They are the weakest 5-0 in the nation. The offense is on respirator (ranked 89th in total offense), and the defense is keeping them in the game. How many dropped passes can you have in one game? Some say that QB Joe Tereshinski might make the start against the Vols. As much as I hate to say it, I think the game will be titled “Revenge of the Volunteers.” Coach Richt is so dazed by the offensive sluggishness that he is using phrases like “got outphysicaled” in interviews after the Ole Miss game. Las Vegas is taking TENNESSEE and I no choice but to do the same.

Ga. Tech vs. Maryland
The big question on fans’ minds is will we see the traditional Tech let down following a big upset victory? Remember the Jackets upset a big Auburn team and a big Miami team in years past and ended up going to the Toilet Bowl at end of the season. Hoping for some magic, it’s GEROGIA TECH.

Florida @ LSU
This is the game of the week! Florida is solid this year, but LSU looks better and better every week. Could Louisiana State University have enough momentum to topple their opponent? Nah, FLORIDA wins.

Staff member's picks:
Mike B (27-15): Bowdon, Starr's Mill, Glascock County, Cartersville, Whitewater, UGA, Ga Tech, LSU.

John Thompson (29-13) - Bowdon, Starr's Mill, OLM, Sandy Creek, Whitewater, Tenn., Ga Tech, Florida.

John Munford (31-11) - Bowdon, Starr's Mill, Glascock County, Cartersville, Whitewater, UGA, Maryland, LSU.

8 ball (22-20)- Bowdon, McIntosh, OLM, Sandy Creek, Whitewater, UGA, Ga. Tech, Florida

I was getting my thoughts together with my son at half time of the Georgia-Tennessee game. We were going to chastise Steve Brown for not having enough faith in Georgia (he’s an alum) to win. I’m glad I waited until after the game. We thought for sure that LSU would win too. Throw in the Auburn game and it was a wild week.

Congratulations to Landmark for knocking off a ranked team!

How on earth can John Munford pick the University of Georgia and the University of Maryland to win? This just doesn't make sense.

Tech is having their best season in recent memory. Tennesse is showing more offense in the first half or their games than Georgia does for the entire game.

Dawgs will find a way to get it done. As to the gt pick, he probably feels it's time for Reggie Ball to have "one of those games" he always has.
