City of McIntosh to appropriate Peachtree City's reputation

The new City of McIntosh, which Fayette County is making a reality in the next couple of years by buildng the highway "aorta" that will literally supply life to this creation, is an amazing example of one community appropriating another's national reputation and value.

It reminds me of the classic group project we all did in high school or college. You remember, don't you? You and several others worked really hard for many weeks the on the joint project, but there was always one slacker that didn't do much. When the professor gave you an "A," the slacker got the same grade as the rest of the group - - that had worked for far longer.

The City of McIntosh will NOT have the LOW DENSITY and the immense greenways that made PTC the wonderful place it is. The City of McIntosh will cram as many structures as fire codes will allow on the smallest lots the developer can get away with selling. Yet, the greatest irony is that the City of McIntosh's greatest asset is that it will reside in PTC's backyard - - and use our roads to go places!! We are being scammed in this, my friends!!

... IF AFTER THAT ROAD IS EXTENDED AND THE CITY OF MCINTOSH IS BUILT, YOU DEAR LADY AND ALL YOUR CRACKPOT FRIENDS MAKE GOOD ON YOUR THREATS AND MOVE FAR, FAR AWAY! WITH NEIGHBORS LIKE YOU ... WHY WOULD ANYBODY WANT TO LIVE RIGHT NEXT TO PTC IN THE FIRST PLACE?

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT FROM AN EARLIER POST:

OH GIVE ME A BREAK !

ENOUGH ALREADY "SAVE OUR CITY" with the fear-mongering, class-baiting and baseless predictions that the end is near for your "charming" little town! And all because of a road? I can think of 10 concerns that pose an equal or greater threat to your precious, perfect way of life ... which of course was never more precious or perfect than on the very day YOU arrived.

Like too many PTC residents, unfortunately, you embrace a centrist and elitist view of the "outside" world that paints yourself a victim ... and everybody else the bad guy out to destroy what (in your mind anyway) they can't have. And you accuse NUK of changing the subject while shamelessly employing bad melodrama in an attempt to scare your neighbors into action? Talk about exploitation!

Or should I call you "REAL ESTATE BOY"? Hey buddy, why don't you take your Coweta MLS book and move on over there and help them figure out a way to get your 50,000 new friends to I-85 without going through PTC and destroying our little town. Yes, profiteer, it is a charming town...no quotations are needed.

I find you TDK profiteers masquerading as "average PTC citizens" quite amusing. Your hostility and animosity to people that love this city give you away...only a jerk trying to make a buck would be this ugly to someone trying to save this city from traffic hell.

I hope the City of McIntosh is better than that. Who wants a reputation of snobs, out of control kids, juvenile problems, absent parents, keeping up with the Jones, and drink until you drop. Our reputation is so bad that the rest of our own County snubs their nose at us because of our lack of courtesy and better than thou attitude. Give me a break. You really think that the City of McIntosh wants to pattern itself after today's Peachtree City. Other than golf cart trails, the new Peachtree City has very little to offer. That's why most of us go to Newnan or Atlanta for entertainment. Maybe your thinking of the Peachtree City from days gone by, the 70s and 80s. Its time to pass the torch. Our flames about burnt out.

Lowrider: Save Our City has resided in MANY communities in the US, and believes PTC is the nicest town SOC has ever lived in. SOC lives in a very nice ($$) neighborhood, but has never met a single person that could be considered a snob. All of the kids on this street go to church and make it to universities (some elite schools, at that). SOC knows many kids involved in church and community activities. A few bad worms are getting news locally, but there are many good kids in PTC. BTW, does "lowrider" refer to sagging anatomy, or were you alluding to the Latino form of auto modification?

Buchead is better, however they are gradually shutting down the jive places there. PTC parents can't take their kids there until they are at least six. May get run over with a stretch limo! We now have about eight drinking sports and smoking bars in PTC, enough maybe for our AA people, but not enough for the semi-AA's. Too bad we still don't have a decent restaurant that doesn't have 1000 more just like it everywhere! I, for one, am getting tired of paying $25 a head, plus drinks, for the same stuff that I can make better at home and not be jammed in with loud mouthed drunks and screamers. These snotty places will go the way of other fads soon maybe. I think when the credit cards are maxed, half of them will close!

As per lowrider, we have ”a reputation of snobs, out of control kids, juvenile problems, absent parents, keeping up with the Jones, and drink until you drop. Our reputation is so bad that the rest of our own County snubs their nose at us because of our lack of courtesy and better than thou attitude.”

The problem is I can’t argue with him/her.

I’ve been here long enough that I know for a fact that in my part of PTC there are good parents and kids alike. The bad ones are put on notice that certain behavior is not tolerated.

I’ve seen parents turning their kind into pedestrians for not coming to a full stop at one of the neighborhood stop signs or driving to fast. We’ve had parents make their kids mow the common property for talking back to them. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that one or two have seen the inside of the “wood shed”.

As far as “parties” go, we have several airline folks here that, on occasion, have left their kids, 15+ year olds, at home for two or three days while their off making a living. The parents go around and announce it to the world that they are not gong to be around and ask us to please keep an eye on things.

What usually happens is that the kids have dinner at a different house every night with one of us. They basically have to apologize for not coming over because they were invited to another neighbors’ home earlier. We park our cars in their driveways. Heck, most of the time they’re at one of our houses anyway so we just tell them to crash in the guest bedroom.

That’s if the kid isn’t at work. If they are, we know their work schedules.

As a rule we inform our neighbors if we’re gong to be having a party, we usually just invite them over, just so they know it’s the parents having the party and not our kids.

If one of us is driving our kid to school for some reason we stop at the bus stop and ask the kids if any of them want to ride with us. You never see a golfcart going to school with just one kid on it.

We neighbors’ lookout for each other and our kids. That’s the way we did it when I was a kid.

I’ve lived in three areas of PTC since I moved here around 20 years ago and it’s been the same in each neighborhood.

Do you know the parents names, addresses and phone numbers of all your kids friends? We do.

You ought to see what a new “boyfriend” has to go through around here. He thought dad was bad until he got to me. We make a game out of it. If he drops off girl child and then goes flying out of the neighborhood, he might as well not come back. We just don’t put up with it.

As far as the two “superstars” at the game the other night, maybe Cal should print the parents’ names and addresses. Then we could all send them thank you cards.

Sounds like you have a great neighborhood. Keep up the good work.

Sadly most the kids and parents we hear about here are not classy....they are trashy. Trashy is not classy.......and trashy doesn't sell homes. People with manners and good kids sell homes.

During the summer we have lawn mower/golfcart races, water balloon fights. Nobody is safe.

Last year we ambushed some neighbors coming home from church and they retaliated with garden hoses. They were still in their Sunday best. It ended with a neighborhood cookout at the pool. (we bought the burgers and dogs)

Halloween is a party for the parents. We get together in the culdesacs and leave the teenagers home to hand out the candy. We’ve got food, music and adult candy.

I’ve been banned from scaring the high school kids.

I have one of those hunting suits that resembles a gunny suit. The neighbors had to come over to see what all the screaming was about.

I would sit on the front porch and the kids would look at the pumpkin and ignore the “bush”, right up to the time the “bush” grabbed them by the ankle.

It was determined that launching high school kids into the street was not desirable.

I may be warped, but the look on their faces is priceless.
