PTC Growth Opposition

If you think growth is a bad word, you should try living in a community with no growth. No growth means taxes much higher than ours because of fewer taxpayers to support infrastructure. No growth means vacant buildings and declining real estate values and a general malaise. Many communities dream of having problems controlling growth. It is uncontrolled growth that is bad and Peachtree City is the antithesis of uncontrolled growth. The hyperbole in some of these posts is laughable. Yes, we need to keep up the zoning and planning standards that has made Peachtree City the envy of the country, but lets keep our criticism in perspective.

Smart Growth has been the model for Fayette County for the last several years. It worked, the county and the cities prospered and the quality of life was enviable. The problem was that the developers were not making any money. Were it not for Fayetteville and its' annexation mania led by (DUH!) Larry Dell and smiling Ken Steele, people like Scarbrough and Rolader, Wayne Leslie, Lane Brown, Randy Hayes and Group VI would have withered on the vine. Those idiots on the Fayetteville City council never missed an opportunity (or failed to accommodate) one of their favored few. Seeing the success that influencing elections with tons of money and hand picked candidates can yield, they turned their attention to first PTC and that fair city ended up with Logsdon and the 4 Dwarfs who are now at the beck and call of those who financed their campaigns (see list above). Flushed with that success they turned to Fayette county commission and with the assistance of a corrupt sheriff and his money grubbing henchmen, succeeded in removing two of the staunchest smart growth advocates that this county has ever had, Greg Dunn and Linda Wells.

There is no doubt that Maxwell and Smith (along with Frady and Horgan) will turn into the(developer) "Friendly Four".
Sorry Fayette Countians, you should have gotten out and voted for your life style instead of letting those who are only interested in lining their own pockets and granting favors to friends rule your government. Buzzzzt. Sorry, you lose!! As parting gifts each of you will be receiving higher taxes, more traffic, more crowded schools and a life style that will be identical any suburb anywhere else in the country. Thanks for playing their game.

Yes, Greg and Janet were wonderful. Everyone else was a moron. Thanks for helping us understand that, Janet Dunn.

We will try to get along without them somehow.

I'm trying to tone it down to the third grade level that many of you seem comfortable with. See I ended that incorrectly with a preposition - just for you.

Just an observation here regarding lawaboveall's statement that we're "letting those who are only interested in lining their own pockets and granting favors to friends rule (our) government." This is yet another unchallenged allegation that a mayor, councilman, county commissioner, representative or senator is illegally accepting money in order to approve development.

Cal - after your vigorous retaliation against someone making unconfirmed comments about Bruce Jordan, where is the proof on these alleged payoffs? If our elected officials are illegally using their positions for financial gain, I want to know about it. If it is the pretty tightly controlled campain donations, that should be noted, but it isn't personal gain, and the donations to failed candidates should also be noted (I believe Mayor Brown had large donations from developers - still NOT illegal, but also never mentioned).

If all this mudslinging is nothing more than unproven speculation, it reeks of libel and should be controlled just as stringently as allegations about Jordan.

By the way Pandora,

Do you think Seabaugh took money to push TDK. I don't. But the way the world works is that Mitch gets a big raise from his employer because his employer "profits" from the outcome. Is it illegal? No of course not. Is it wrong? The way I was brought up it is.

So don't be surprised if some of these contributors to the other races suddenly become clients of certain law firms or accounting practices or transmission shops for example.
Not illegal, but still wrong.

It is true, Mudcat and Robert W. Morgan are terrified of Steve Brown. Mudcat can't get back to the litter box in time when someone starts talking bad about developers and their political friends.

I've never considered Steve Brown to be someone who hides. His letter in the Citizen about the campaign funding and TDK issues were pretty in-your-face. You can always tell whether Steve is on to something or not by the way Mudcat, Pandora and Robert W. Morgan (aka: Defenders of the Dark Side) respond.

Pandora,

Who said anything about payoffs? The "pocket lining" I was referring to was for the developers. They are the ones who profit from their investment into the campaigns of friendly politicians.

Nothing I said was libelous because I did not mention anyone whom I was accusing of taking anything illegally among the politicians. There are many ways to "gain" from a position that has nothing to do with accepting money. The "gain" that some people receive is one of a feeling of importance and prestige. it is not monetary, but just as valuable to them. Why do you think these developers pick these people? Because they are easily manipulated through flattery and blowing up their self-importance.

These same developers laugh about how easily Frady, Logsden, and Horgan are manipulated to their own ends. I know because I have been there when it has happened. The net result is the same, but it is much cheaper than out and out bribery.

If you think that what I said was actually libelous, then you need to look up the definition

”because I did not mention anyone whom I was accusing”

Where do you get off “accusing” people without proof?

Tincar says it's an all-or-nothing game. You either pile up the streets or you watch it die.

Tincar go look at the Georgia Place Mall in Gwinnett. Yes, Gwinnett where they say build it, build it and build it. The place is a turning into an over-built dump, and crime is going through the roof, and traffic stinks.

I haven't heard anyone yell "close the gate." No one is demanding that growth be stopped completely. The difference between Peachtree City and other Atlanta area cities is quality growth. People are saying they don't want over-development, and that's not a bad thing.

"Tincar says it's an all-or-nothing game. You either pile up the streets or you watch it die."

Tincar didn't say anything REMOTELY like that. I notice that the anti-everything crowd has a very difficult time understanding what is written. They seem to have double-vision and see sentences and thoughts that no one else can see.

Try taking people's thoughts at face-value without immediately spinning them and adding a whole lot that simply was never stated nor thought.

Then maybe Nuk can tell us what Tincar was saying??

It sounded to me like Tincar was saying it doen't matter if we look like the rest of over built metro Atlanta as long as we have growth. Tincar DEFINITELY DIDN'T SAY OR IMPLY that we need development standards, the kind that makes us a great place to live.

Ya'll can go live in Coweta or Fairburn, they are cranking up the growth.

Let me help you...obviously some of you cannot read and comprehend:

"Yes, we need to keep up the zoning and planning standards that has made Peachtree City the envy of the country, but lets keep our criticism in perspective."

Now, where does that say anything about uncontrolled growth? Uh, it DOESN'T.

WHO has EVER posted here and said "I want uncontrolled growth!" Uh, no one.

Now, some people here DO indeed post that growth is coming whether anyone likes it or not(this is known as REALITY), but not a single person-not-even a developer-favors "uncontrolled growth."

If East Coweta booms as planned(even without TDK) and those areas decide they are going to take Hwy 74, what are you going to do about it? There is NOTHING you can do about it. PTC doesn't "own" Hwy 74/54/34. If Coweta folks want to use 74, they are going to use 74.

All NUC is doing is stating the obvious. He’s not claiming anything that is not outside of the simple truth.

You may not like to hear it, especially the way he tells it, but it’s the truth nun the less.

Development is a “good thing” if done correctly.

There is no reason to fear the TDK extension or other development news as long as city, county and state representatives understand the impact it will have on existing communities and take the necessary actions so that most benefit from it.

That being said, NUC please correct me if I’m wrong, city, county and state representatives need to plan for what is to come and take the appropriate actions to minimize the detrimental effects that may follow.

I would suggest that instead of calling NUC names we all get with our representatives and take action to insure that proper infrastructure is in place to accommodate it.

From what I remember, less that 10% of the registered voters voted in the last election. That leaves your’s and my lifestyle in the hands of 10% of the population. I voted.

If you didn’t vote, than don’t bitch. (I hope I can say that here)

Development is coming. There is no law on the books that says it has to have our blessing first.

Make the best out of what you’ve been dealt. If you don’t like the laws, then work to change them.
