An interesting read about the recent history in the Islamic Middle East and why and how the changes there have occured.

I'd recommend that you read it, about five minutes or so, and learn why Islamists are still something to be feared, but also something to be understood through the eyes of history.

It helped me to understand Islam through the more recent changes in our western history.

Hi Richard,

It is understandable, to an extent. But if one carries the history of Islam back, you will find the Ottman Empire does not fit the old mold presented.

It was extremely large, centralized, lacking in justice and under a very strict rule.

This email, from Saudi Arabia, should present some good fill ins that are missed by most Americans, when viewing Islam.

But not by those who have been in those cultures, or have studied their history.

Thanks for sharing the interesting e-mail. I lived in Saudi from the late 70s through the mid 80s. Your friend is right on the money in his perspective. Some things never change and I doubt Islam will be changing anytime soon. Every aspect of life is in terms of Allah's will.

If you feel like it, I would like to see you take a look at the other Islamic topics over there and add a comment.

It would be of value, I think, to build up some posts that educate some people on things such as this.

You too, Richard!
