Alcan accident/fire?

fancypants's picture

Something was going on at the Alcan building off of Dividend Dr/TDK Blvd corner. Fire trucks were out in force and Police blocked off Dividend Dr in both directions.

Anybody know what happened?

That Alcan plant uses a lot of dangerous chemicals.

Check out scorecard.org and see what Alcan has been up to in other areas, wonder what's in store for us here. I dislike all the cars that the TDK extension will bring but at least that development won't be another toxic waste dump or paper mill or something. Or maybe those are still coming to the industrial park? That scorecard site is a little out of date, the top polluter for our area is still listed as Photocircuits but if you put in the company name you can see the names of the recognized carcinogens that companies are releasing elsewhere in the country and I guess that's going on here too. I think Alcan has mostly hydrochloric acid that's dangerous, but not really bad stuff like vinyl chloride - we get THAT from Noveon, which is a little further down the street.

So is Oak Ridge. Where do you want them to go? What is needed is honest industrialists. How do you get them? Put bad ones in jail.

Has anyone heard about an explosion or fire there earlier this week?

Someone told me there were 2 panels blown out and Foam out to the street near their cylinder cleaning area.

I have seen nothing here or at the PCFD web site yet.

PCFD units were dispatched to 445 Dividend Dr. at 06:47:14 on Tuesday 9/12/06. Units remained on scene for 2 hours and 58 minutes - Oh wait, that's right, I don't know anything about that firefighting stuff, or what goes on around town, as several of the bloggers in here have previously decided I'm one of the developers in town or one of the Direct PAC members - and not a PCFD Career Firefighter.

Give us a break intheknow, my 11 year old son can get that kind of information, it's public record.

The surest sign of Direct PAC is the high arrogance level when disseminating vague information.
