Dwight Smith, a member of the 1995 World Series Atlanta Braves, was arrested Friday on a drug charge after a traffic stop in Peachtree City, police said.

Smith, 42, of Hyacinth Lane, Peachtree City was charged with possession of cocaine, driving with a suspended license and driving without insurance, police said. Smith, whose full name is John Dwight Smith, asked the officer to “give him a break” because he was a former major league baseball player, police said.

After Smith was told he would be arrested, he asked to say goodbye to his daughter, and as he did so he was seen removing an item from his pocket and placing under the nearby floor mat, police said. That item contained the suspected cocaine, police said.

A $7,000 bond was set in the case.

Smith was a role player on the 1995 World Series Braves team, getting just seven at-bats in the entire postseason and playing 25 games in the outfield during the regular season.

Smith earned an estimated $3.1 million over his career, according to a listing on Baseball-Reference.com.

Dwight Smith earned $3.1 billion in his career and was arrested for the possession of cocaine. The police told that he was driving his vehicle with his delayed license without insurance.

AJC reported Dwight Smith had his driver's license revoked on DUI and also possession of another substance in 2003/Tyrone. The reporter also wrote that the telephone number Dwight Smith gave the police was bogus. He is obviously a druggie we need to get out of PTC. Dang, he coaches young people! Thank you PTC police for doing your job. Hopefully, the court/judge will take care of Dwight Smith, he should be behind bars for a while, hoping so anyway.

Wait, he earned 3.1 million and yet lives in apartment complex?? Did all of his earnings go up in smoke (nose) too? I hope you get it Mr. Smith, the good old fashion jail bird way. I know there are some guys who would like to get a hold of "a major leaguer". I hope the court system doesn't "give you a break" but makes an example out of you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You were arrested in fromt of your entire family;you are a disgrace to your children and to the game of baseball!!!!!

Time to bulldoze that apartment complex and build retirement condos.

The apartment complex is less than five years old and really beautiful grounds, apartments. Our daughter, who is a college student, lives with two other room mates at the apartment complex and she says the complex is nice with the exception of a few. There is a section of town homes in the back that are not leases, many of the townhomes were sold before the apartments were ever built. She says there are a few leased townhomes where owners moved on and decided to lease. The lease on these few run 1600 - 1800 month. Now that is high rent in my opinion. To keep on topic.....Mr. Smith lives in one of these townhomes.

In one of the comments it said he was a coaching staff member for Cobb. Bruce's son played a team in Riverdale...What the heck??

He coaches a team from Old National; I'm very familiar with this age group. When this happened, they faced each other during a State tournament in Fayette County.

He can buy drugs but not pay his car insurance. I bet that's why his license were revoked! Go figure...

Mr. Smith is a coach at a Cobb county youth baseball facility. He also gives speeches to high school students on staying in school and away from drugs. How ironic....a classic case of NOT practicing what he preaches.

Like I've read many times on the blogs here, drug dealers aren't passing through PTC....the dealers are here because there are users, one being Mr. Dwight Smith!

So good to hear the police officer did his duty, regardless of Mr. Smith's status in the community.

How long has this guy lived in PTC? Because that is not the way to get on the good side of an officer, to ask for a break because you're "somebody." I know our officers would've arrested him anyways, since he was driving suspended and no insurance, so there's no way him telling them who he was would've made a difference, but for him to even say it... that's just being stupid.

Thank you, PTC, for showing again that you will do your job, regardless of the "who".
