Will Tyrone ever have a new sewer contract with Fairburn?

That’s the question Councilman Grace Caldwell wants answered in a timely fashion. Town manager Barry Amos said at Thursday night’s council meeting that he had made repeated calls to his counterpart in Fairburn, Jim Williams, but said it must not be a high priority for Fairburn’s government.

Tyrone’s attorney for sewer contracts, Drew Whalen, suggested Mayor Sheryl Lee contact Fairburn Mayor Betty Hannah and try and speed the process. Tyrone ratified a new sewer agreement with Fairburn months ago, but is still waiting for the final agreement from the South Fulton city.

Whalen was at Thursday’s meeting because Councilman Gloria Furr wanted some questions answered about Tyrone’s existing sewer capacity.

Rumors have circulated that Phil Seay, who developed the Southampton shopping center had sold some of the land to another entity and Furr wanted to know how that affected the town’s capacity.

In the contract with Seay, Whalen said the capacity can only be used for Southampton commercial use.

“it’s like zoning. It stays with the property,” said Amos.

Concern was also raised that the contract between Seay and the town for the sewer capacity that ends in October.

“An extension of the contract would probably be the easisr approach,” Whalen said.

"it's like zoning. It stays with the property"

So, like zoning, he asked about capacity so he'll know what's up when he gets the land re-zoned. Right?
