The Tyrone Town Council followed their counterparts in Fayette County and urged the closure of the Phillips Service Corporation plan in South Fulton County that released chemicals into the air this summer.

The resolution states the release of Propyl mercaptan at the site may have caused many residents in Fayette and South Fulton County health problems during the summer.

Since the chemical was released, more than 700 people have complained of some sort of ailment, and government agencies, led by the Fayette County Department of Emergency Services, has tried to help residents discover the cause of their ailments.

The resolution also discusses the possible environmental concerns of any noxious materials being released into the Whitewater Creek basin, which is one of Fayette County’s major water suppliers.

During the summer, a series of meetings with government agencies was held to try and get to the bottom of the problem. But the Fayette County Commission was the first agency to call for the plant to be permanently shut down.

Tyrone followed suit Thursday night, and Councilman Paul Letourneau thanked Councilmen Grace caldwell and Gloria Furr for their active role in the process.

Sadam Hussain was allowed free reins to poison his own people a few years ago, but now he will pay the ultimate price for his incredible disregard for human life. We have been poisoned by the PSC plant and they were allowed to operate, even after our numerous complaints, by the same authorites that are charged to protect us from situations of this nature. All good things must come to a end as the PSC plant will soon discover.
To the City Council of Tyrone and the Tyrone citizens, thanks for making a no-brainer decision to close this plant. It's good to know that we still have some intelligent officals around besides Fayette County.
Thanks from my family and our poisoned, (Roxy, Muffin) late pets.
