Dead man likely suspect from PTC robberiesThu, 09/07/2006 - 3:51pm

A man shot and killed by police in Cobb County Tuesday is likely the same person who committed two armed robberies in Peachtree City last month, police said. Christopher Shane Mosley of East Point was shot during a standoff after charging police who were attempting to arrest him for another robbery, this time of a consignment store, according to media reports. Peachtree City Police Chief James Murray cautioned that the identity has not yet been confirmed, but was pending confirmation of two key details. Murray said that based on several photos of Mosley, he is pretty sure Mosley was the same person who robbed The Herb Shop and the Marble Slab Creamery in Peachtree City. One of the photos was from Mosley’s current driver’s license; the other is from when he was in a Texas prison about 11 years ago, Murray said, noting that Mosley’s lips are “very distinctive.” Since the Marble Slab Creamery robbery, officers have been conducting surveillance at local stores expecting the robber to strike again, Murray said. That operation tapped the department’s resources but was necessary, especially in hindsight after seeing how Mosley died: while challenging police officers with a gun, Murray said. Police talked with Mosley’s father Wednesday and confirmed that Mosley suffered from a drug problem, which would explain why he targeted small stores that would likely have cash on hand, Murray said. login to post comments |
