I hope the event goes well and that everyone has a good time. For those who don't care for this kind of event, hopefully you will be enjoying your weekend and not be concerned with what is going on at the FRED. Otherwise your just wasting your time.

I moved to Peachtree City less than a year ago because I thought it would be a great community to raise my small children. I saw the diversity and friendliness of the people and decided this is where I wanted my kids to be raised. I am having second thoughts now.... Is this the type of city where people can only be one way thinking?? If it isn't "your" way it has to be the highway? The event at the "Fred" that is causing such a ruckus is amazing to me. Maybe since I am not retired and I have more important things to do with my time I am not that concerned - or, maybe it is just that it is really not that big of a deal. These people aren't murderers or child molestors, they are athletes. The spectators are everyday people - ones that wake up every morning and go to work to support their families and may want a little release from the everyday stress of life. If you do not want to attend the event - don't. Why do you feel the need to have your voice heard? Some people are better off remaining silent. Open your minds and remember the freedom that you are afforded by living in a beautiful city such as Peachtree City. I may not agree with the event that is going on, but I don't feel the need to have my voice heard. The beauty of living in this great country is not only do we have the right to voice our opinions, but we also have the right to do things that not everybody is going to agree with.

For those of you that have posted comments about living near the theater and are concerned about the security issues please make sure to voice your concerns with the Sherrif so he can make sure to have the event staffed with enough officers to make sure nothing goes wrong. No matter what the event (Franki Valli or Ultimate Fighting) without enough of a Police presence there will always be the risk of problems.

Hopefully tonight's concert at the Fred will go off without a hitch just like I hope every event there does. Let's all just take a step back and look at how lucky we are to live where we live and be able to do the things that we do. Smiling

Hi, my name is Cory Nestlehutt. I am the promoter and also one of the fighters for the "Southside Slugfest" show. I have read all the comments, good and bad. It is nothing new to me. Our sport has been dealing with this since day one. For the ones that have negative comments, I really have to wonder if you have ever been to a show or are you just going on hearsay? Things that bother me the most are comments like someone calling us "thugs." Last time I checked I didn't consider police officers, fire fighters, and military to be thugs. These are not only people who love and attend our shows, but actually participate as fighters. Our PTC show includes two police officers and two ex-military. Any time someone asks me the question, "Why I do what I do?" I simply reply, "Why does someone run a 25 mile marathon?" It's because they love it. Let's face it people, we are all different. One thing that I think you should always consider is, if it is a sport you like or not; you should always have respect for it. So the only thing that I ask is that the people who have negative comments, please understand how much work, discipline, and pure heart goes into getting ready for a fight. It has been said time after time that without a doubt, these are the most conditioned athletes in the world. Just to give you an idea of the conditioning, an MMA fight that goes the full three rounds, is longer than one quarter of a football game. Last time I checked, football players rest between every play. Once again, all I ask of the citizens of PTC is a fair shake. Please don't stereotype and compare us to sports like wrestling. People who do that show me that they have definitely never attended a Mixed Martial Arts event. Thank you for your time and for those of you who wonder how the show will do, I guarantee a sellout.
Thank you, Cory Nestlehutt

How did you get that dent in your head? I have seen these events and I will not despute you guys are realy trained I would not like to meet one of you in the back alley that is for sure. I believe if you did't call it fights so much it would be better accepted. Try contests or something like that. I actually know who you are and I know you are a good guy and I am just teasing you abojut your head. An old friend see you at the contest.

Blogger idontknow, who said he was leaving the site, lies like his mayor he so adamantly defends. He has stolen my blog name by adding some periods at the end. He even stole the photo. (see the 09/07/2006 - 11:04pm post above).

This is the only way Robert W. Morgan, Pandora and idontknow can defend the crooked network of cronyism. These are the same people who gave us Direct PAC and head the Chamber of Commerce.

Steal, cheat and lie, it's all they know. Click on the "Spear Road Guy" on the post and you'll see it's idontknow's former list of blogs. They just can't stand it when you beat them with the truth!

What are you talking about?

Hey - did you go to the Council meeting tonight? Too bad you didn't, you would have heard the whole council's opinions on TDK (they're not happy either, even Logsdon), the state, GRTA, DOT and who's to blame for all this mess. And I'll give you a hint - it's not Bob Lenox, Steve Brown, Fred Brown, J. Fred Muggs or any other consipracy theory you may have.

Have a great day!

Vote Republican, and get a clue, folks. It's a shame you weren't at the meeting tonight to get to hear what really happened.

Too funny! I love it. I wish I knew this "idontknow" guy you're referring to...sounds like a real hoot!

Hey - git real - did you go to council tonight? Or were you posting online all night? It's too bad you didn't go - you would've got good information about what's really going on, etc.

Did you know that McIntosh isn't the only development of regional impact in Coweta County that is GRTA is requiring Peachtree City to build the TDK extension at the expense of losing state road funding?

I was there oh poster of low character. Although "Reality Bytes" is a much better name for you. It sums up your stealing posting names.

Of course McIntosh is not the only DRI - did you really think it was going to stop there? Get serious. Come on, Logsdon's act wasn't real. He knew what was going on, but he was just to stupid to know there was going to be a horrible reaction. Remember his "there's nothing we can do about it" quotes in the newspapers?

I'm not going to MMA. I'm waiting for the mud wrestling (feather weigh championship match between Ginny Globes and Betsy Bustline).

who's the liar now? Spear Road Guy suddenly disappeared. Hmmm....

The answers - the mayor will be meeting with the GA DOT commissioner and with the Coweta County Commission Chair. The City attorney will be helping the mayor with the questions regarding the GRTA notices of decision.

Please remember to get the facts and not believe the postering of those with an axe to grind...present company included Smiling

Hey Ignoramus (or idontknow or Reality Bytes or whatever name you’ve stolen), if you’ve got a question for me, how about putting my name in the title so I’ll know. You seem almost giddy that we’re about to be slaughtered by on-coming traffic from the swelling of east Coweta.

I didn’t find the same joy you did knowing that Mayor Harold Logsdon, the inadequate and development-leaning mayor, is going to meet with the GDOT Commissioner and Greg Tarbutton. We all know how that one is going to turn out – more excuses. Harold wasn't angry (he was embarrased about the exposure) and he'll give us five reasons why the road must through. Greg Dunn was right, it's Peachtree City's decision.

If Kristi Rapson or any other smart female - like Nancy Price, were in charge of the Fred, this would not have been booked. Those ladies know what PTC is all about and it is certainly not this.

Who did they finally get to run the Fred after Steve and his buddies ran off several of Kristi's successors?

This is amazing! Steve Brown has been out of office shy of one year and Robert W. Morgan blames Brown for an act appearing at the amphitheater in October? My God are you guys desperate!

You're really making us believe in the mental disorder theory. It's obvious that Logsdon is not a leader, but do you really think he can't pull the plug on an event like that? You have to blame it on Brown?

The Direct PAC is crashing and burning. Diversion is the only tactic they have left. Seriously, start going to AA and take Logsdon with you. Unbelievable.

Robert W. Morgan-Lenox and the Development Authority “LEGACY”

OK--- now read this trash objectively….Bobby doesn’t like wrestling. OK…Like O’Doyle suggested, don’t go. But wait--- Brown bashing Bobby blames the show on Brown getting rid of people in the Ampitheatre. I agree--- Kristi Rapson (PTC) and Nancy Price (F’ville) are both highly competent managers. But who fired Rapson, Bobby? It was your buddies on the Development Authority “Dr.” Bob Brooks, Virgil Christian and Tate Godfrey. Thus, if you guys hadn’t fired Kristi you wouldn’t be whining.

The very evil you complain of is the evil that you and your friends caused.

What a cultural event!

Who's brilliant idea was this?

Just the right thing to draw the demographic we want in this city, NOT.

I hope it does't draw flies.

It doesn't seem to fit with what PTC and its Citizens stand for. We'll see if I'm alone with my comments...

odoylerules's picture

Mixed martial arts isn't for everybody, so if you don't like it, don't go. Some people don't like Beary hobbs and The Drifters, so they don't go to those shows. PTC and its citizens stand for a lot of things and a lot of PTC citizens take martial arts classes, watch UFC fights and enjoy things like this. PTC isn't just made up of people like you or me.

I'll bet the show will sell out very quickly. The people who go will enjoy it and the people who hate this type of thing - like my Mom - won't give it any thought and won't even realize when it comes to town and when it leaves.

Something like this pops up and some of you people act like its the end of the world coming to PTC. Deal with the fact that there is a world outside of your own.

Personally, I don't care for UFC and don't plan to attend but for goodness sakes, don't go if it's not your thing.

Stupid comments about not drawing the demographics we want (contrary to what you might believe, most of the fans are local high school students) and it not fitting what PTC stands for (what does that mean??) are just plain ridiculous.

UFC is a legal sporting event which combines martial arts and kickboxing (sorry, but it has nothing to do with professional wrestling) and is an extremely popular sport right now. Ever been to Three Dollar Cafe or Taco Mac when it's on TV? The crowds are huge and the TV ratings are week in and week out some of the highest on cable.

Look the Fred is in business to make money and help reduce PTC's tax burden. The locals have not supported past efforts to have other types of events (jazz concerts, comedy showns, plays, etc.) and in most cases I would suspect have caused the Fred to go in the red for the night.

Heck, give 'em credit for trying something new.

Submitted by Swartzerized on Thu, 09/07/2006 - 11:36pm.

Let's reduce the tax burden by having nude reviews at the Fred also. Strip shows are extremely popular, the crowds are huge and the girls (guys in some cases) get rave reviews. If you don't like it, the solution to the problem is don't go. Heck, give 'em credit for trying something new. This UFC fight is a money making venture primarly made up of private groups that have nothing to do with our city. According to what I've heard, an anticipated large amount of alcohol sales became a major determining factor in gaining the city's (Tourism Association and City Administration's) approval for this event. Has anyone thought about tax payer's liability that comes with approving this event. Are our city administrators that irresponsible. There is plenty of information about the UFC on a number of websites. The citizens of this community need to educate themselves about the UFC and ask how a pulic display of guys beating the crap out of each other was approved. Do your research on the injuries involved and find out if the UFC is still banned in a number of states. Who exactly will profit by bringing this to Peachtree City? We have a no-tollerance rule for fighting in public schools, but I guess since these are organized beatings they are O.K. for city recreation.

That's a great idea you've got there. No offense, but you sound like a 65 yr old church lady. And anyway...who wants to see all those 50's & 60's swingers they usually roll out at the Fred? Oh yeah, 65 yr old church ladies...and drunk city managers. As for "organized beatings", I'd pay big bucks to see a few citizen bloggers go at each other.

Submitted by McDonoughDawg on Thu, 09/07/2006 - 3:31pm.

Time will tell on the Public Opinion on this one. The City owns the facility, and I think the citizens should have a say in who performs there.

All the Concert acts aren't for me, (although the Little River Band was MUCH better than I anticipated, and the Georgia Satelites stunk, much to my chagrin) but they are just that, concert acts, not Ultimate Fighting Contests.

I'll be watching this one, I've never once had a problem with the folks attending shows, and I hope this one keeps that record up.

borntorun's picture
Submitted by borntorun on Thu, 09/07/2006 - 7:38pm.

Actually, the citizens do have a say in who performs there as far as the concert series goes. Surveys are handed out every year at the last couple of concerts. Obviously, we'll never see U2 or Alan Jackson here due to size and cost constraints but I bet people still vote for 'em and then complain when they aren't booked.

As for non-concert events, I don't know for sure but I would think anyone could pick up the phone and call the Fred and give 'em a suggestion.

What would you like to see at the Fred?
