Everywhere you look citizens are fighting tax increases. “We’re planning to fail” was the cry at the BOE hearing in Gilmer County Sept. 11. These taxpayers are vocal and are trying to force their BOE to cut expenses 35%. The BOE wants a 17% increase. The citizens are down on all tax increase, including Splost, Tan’s & Bonds. In Gilmer County, SPLOST stands for S-ucker P-ayment LOST. I live in Fayette and also own property in Gilmer. It’s an all out tax revolution everywhere. If I know these mountain people and I do, they might find a BOE along the side of a road beaten and bloody. BOE stands for Born On Expenditures. Less than 4 months in office newly elected officials went back on their promise to correct or repeal Tyrone’s bad zoning ordinance. At the April 17 meeting, council considered a proposal to amend the zoning ordinance which would have corrected some of the sins of Barry Amos and the old council. Instead they voted unanimously to keep the ordinance in place.
