Thanks, Fayette: Jitterbuggers jump off to great start locally

Thanks Fayette County From Jitterbuggers Teen Club

We opened our doors to Phase 1 on June 10. As of July 4, 1999 our progress: 1,000 hits on our website, 500 e-mails to my home site, hundreds of phone calls, 94 job applicants and 11 young people hired as hosts or hostesses from three of our four major public high schools. We signed up our 100th member on the 4th of July.

It has been our privilege to showcase several young bands including McIntosh's Paradime, Fayetteville's Pandora's Box and McIntosh's recent graduates, Slow Kids At Play.

Our thanks especially to the many members and volunteers who helped pass out hundreds of flyers during the Peachtree City Parade and participated in our 60-hour July 4th Weekend Celebration where three bands, swing dancing and disco were showcased at the club.

We were especially pleased to see some of the young people who had worked diligently in the mid-1990s stop by to see the spin-off project of the Peachtree City Commission on Children and Youth become a reality. Good luck, Michele Giddens and Chris Kosack, as you continue your educational pursuits.

In addition, thanks go out to the following companies who have supported us: Attina Music, Best Buy, Coca Cola and Coca Cola Enterprises, Coleman Associates, Chick-Fil-A, Fayette County Board of Education, Hedley Associates, Group VI Developers, Kroger, Lithonia Lighting, Peachtree Christian Church, Peachtree City Government and the Commission on Children and Youth, Pizza Hut, Rhodes Furniture and Regents Bank (formerly Fayette County Bank).

Plans for summer and early fall '99 include: Phase II will open in July '99 with “The Warehouse Retro Dance Room,“ “Sports Room Showcase,” and Arcades by Action Vend of Fayetteville.

Designs for the school mural contest are being submitted and the winning school will receive a 2-hour swing dance party. An alliance with Dance City, New York, N.Y., will help showcase the benefits of dance for our young people.

Future major booking events with the city of Fayetteville Main Street operations, Starr's Mill High School and Panther Booster Club will further expand our commitment to fulfill our mission of providing quality entertainment to the young people of our community.

Finally, looking into the year 2000, with the successful launch of Jitterbuggers in Peachtree City, additional expansion in other cities in Georgia will take place. The three cities that have already requested Jitterbuggers Teen Club to expand into their areas will also help their communities and improve the quality of their young people's lives.
