Former commissioner found deadFayette native Charlie Mask served in 80s By JOHN THOMPSON
Fayette County Sheriffs officials were pouring over clues Friday in the mysterious death of former Fayette County Commissioner Charlie Mask. Mask, 74, was found in a trailer Thursday night behind his rental house at 662 McBride Road in Fayetteville. Sheriffs officials have not released the cause of death, but suspect foul play. Mask served as a County Commissioner from 1986-1987 and filled the term of Tom Harris who resigned to run for State Senate. I liked Charlie. He had run against me, but it was a clean race, Harris recounted Friday. Harris said that Mask ran for the position in 1988, but lost the race. He went on vacation for two weeks right before the election. I think thats why he lost, Harris added. In 2001, Mask ran for the County Commission again when Harold Bost resigned. When asked why he was running, he was very direct. "I want to help the homeless and needy people and work with the animal shelter," he added. Mask was also proud of his heritage. "My people were founders of Fayette County, and I'd like to leave a little of it like we found it," he said.
