Games to attract participants who like the sound of ‘Fifty,
fit and fun’
The Senior Olympics are coming to Atlanta.
In a news conference held June 8, Mayor Shirley Franklin announced
that Atlanta is about to host another Olympics, the second in eight
years: the 2005 Atlanta Senior Olympics, for adults 50 and over,
in the spring of 2005. The Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta
has been selected as the host organization.
In partnership with the United States Olympic Committee and the
National Senior Games Association, the Marcus Jewish Community Center
is dedicated to bringing metro Atlanta and beyond a Senior Olympics
for the “Fifty, Fit, and Fun.”
After touring the impressive MJCCA facilities June 8, Mayor Franklin
talked to a filled auditorium about the incredible opportunity that
the Center is offering to those fifty years and older. “Every
day I get up and tell myself it is a good day to get fit,” Mayor
Franklin said, “and having just passed fifty myself, participating
in these Senior Olympics Games will be the perfect excuse.”
