Pre-K article contained erroneous info

I wanted to bring to your attention some errors and misleading information contained in an article Feb 11 [about] registration for Pre-K and Kindergarten classes.

Tyrone Elementary School does not have a Georgia Lottery-funded Pre-K as stated. They do have a Title I Pre-K program.

I called the state’s Office of School Readiness to inquire as to whether or not Tyrone would have a Lottery-funded Pre-K next year and was told that the applications for new Pre-K classes were just being mailed out, so there was no way one for next year could have been approved at this time.

Also, the article is misleading in that it talks only about Pre-K programs being offered in public schools. There are several providers of Pre-K programs in Fayette County other than the public schools and the public needs to be aware of these other options.

[I own] the Kids R Kids in North Peachtree City, offering three Lottery-funded Pre-K programs. Our school actually has the highest rated Lottery-funded Pre-K program in Fayette County (higher than the elementary schools that have these programs).

This can be verified on the Web page for Georgia’s Education Accountability, which is a link off of OSR’s web site.

In any regard, I think the paper needs to print some clarification to let the public know there are providers of the Lottery-funded Pre-K programs that are just as “quality” as the school systems’ programs.
