Soccer squads post early wins

Soccer season is here, and several local teams are off to a winning start.

The Starr’s Mill Lady Panthers shut out South Gwinnett 4-0 Feb. 19. Kelley O’Hara scored three goals and Lucy Martin added one. Assists were recorded by Tannah Castro, Beth Meadors and Shelley Wegrzyn, who had two.

Last Saturday’s game at Brookwood ended in a 2-2 tie. O’Hara scored both times, with assists from Meadors and Castro.

Back home this week, the Lady Panthers clobbered Carver of Columbus 15-0 to improve their record to 3-0-1 overall and 1-0 in region play going into tonight’s home game against Walton.

The Sandy Creek Lady Patriots took on Landmark Tuesday and came away with a 4-2 win. Savannah Woody scored two goals, while Dana Morrison and Malika Rajendra had a goal apiece.

The Lady Patriots had two road games to finish out this week, last night at Creekside and tonight at Woodward.

The Newnan Lady Cougars opened their 2004 season Feb. 17 with a 15-0 shellacking of Lovejoy. The scoring was led by Christie McDonald with four goals, while Mimi Edge, Wynn Mottola and Caroline Cordle booted in three each.
