Lacrosse team continues unbeaten streak The Peachtree City high school lacrosse team established a foothold atop the North Georgia Lacrosse League standings with a 15-6 victory over a previously unbeaten Etowah squad last Sunday at Riley Field in Peachtree City. The win takes PTC to a 2-0 record and a number-one power ranking for all high school club lacrosse teams in Georgia. Sometimes we can learn a lot from an ugly win, and although we are a young team we have veteran leadership and strong character. And today we had some different players step up to a new level, said Peachtree City Coach Mike Muetzel following the game. We were extremely rusty coming off a two-week layoff and the winter break. But we were able to move the ball and capitalize off of unsettled situations. We did not play anywhere near our potential. In some aspects of the game we were outplayed, but ultimately our kids fought hard and were focused on passing and scoring. I am really proud of the heart and effort displayed by this entire team. The game started with a flurry of goals in the first three minutes. Etowah immediately quieted the large crowd by quickly scoring the first goal of the game and PTC responded with a goal from Sean Griffin. Etowah then scored again, and Madison Seward tied the game. From that point, Peachtree City never looked back, adding seven goals in the first half. In a tight third quarter, Etowah scored three goals and maintained an edge in possession. But PTC capitalized on the unsettled opportunities, scoring five times in the third and once in the fourth quarter. This was due in large part to the effort of Brian Rosetti, who led the team in the critical ground balls statistics, followed by Kyle Herbers, and Michael Kwan, while face-off specialist Mark Nichols controlled the draws. The sloppy second half became physical with many strong hits from both teams and a lot of contested loose balls. The previously untested PTC defense became stronger as the game continued. Goalie Dan Griffin turned back 30 shots, many from outside the established defensive perimeter, as Etowah outshot PTC by a margin of 36-25. Peachtree City continued to spread out the attack, making the most of their unsettled opportunities, including scoring from Kevin Katerndahl, R.D. Read, Adam Boulet, David Dye and John Gatell. In the first two contests of the season PTC has received scoring from 11 different players. The team travels to West Cobb Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. game, then returns home for a key game against Woodstock March 6 at 7:30 p.m. under the lights at Riley Field (behind Peachtree City Elementary). Admission and parking are free. This week also continues the beginning of practice for the youth teams (13-under, 15-under) in Fayette County, as well as the new Girls PTC lacrosse team.
