Rare bird discovery ranks as great find

The yellow-billed loon, discovered by Eric Beohm of Griffin, is one of the great finds in the history of birding [The Citizen, Jan. 7].

This bird is rare, even in its home territory of Alaska, and has attracted birders from as far away as Massachusetts.

Eric’s hard work and persistence made this find possible and his prompt notification of other birders via GABO-L and the Rare Bird Alert hotline made it possible for many birders to rapidly confirm his initial identification.

He and his brother Michael have put Lake Horton on the map as a good birding spot.
