Some perspectives on the ‘Peace tree’ controversy in PTC

Can you believe those left-leaning, politically correct liberals? At a time when there are so many wars, so much death and destruction, so much suffering and so much upheaval in this world, they have the nerve to put up a tree in a shopping center and call it a “Peace Tree”!

Well, if you ask me (and no one did) there could not be a more appropriate name for the tree.

Far be it from me to claim to be a Bible scholar but I don’t recall a decorated fir tree in the manger. To the best of my knowledge the tree is merely one of many symbols of Christmas. To go one step further, and at the risk of alienating even more individuals, did you know there are neighborhoods where, if you want to put up outdoor lights, another apparent symbol of Christmas, they must all be white?

Do you really think God cares what color lights we use? It appears we place more emphasis on the symbols rather than the actual reason we celebrate Christmas.

Perhaps I am terribly naive; however, I cannot find it in my heart to believe that anyone, myself included, who considers himself a liberal, is trying to take away the right to celebrate Christmas in whichever way we find appropriate.

My blood pressure skyrockets every time I read or hear a report that the liberals are trying to get rid of God. We have had a few liberal presidents and I can’t remember a year there was no tree in Washington.

Forget about what the tree is called. Go donate food at one of the local grocery stores. If your church (yes, many of us liberals attend church) is sponsoring any type of fund for our homeless, out of work or hungry folks, dig down and give. Did Christ not walk this earth to spread peace and love?

We need to remember that and quit worrying so much about labels. Happy holidays.
