DIRECT-PAC endorses Rutherford for PTC Post 1

In consideration of potential for DIRECT PAC to endorse one of the candidates for City Council Post 1, our organization, on Oct. 9, met with Adduci, Poolman, and Rutherford. The candidates had graciously accepted our invitation to talk with us. Thereafter, we attended the Rotary Forum to again listen as the candidates answered questions from other citizens.
During our meeting, Mr. Poolman displayed only sketchy familiarity with the issues facing Peachtree City. Additionally, Poolman reports to Councilman Rapson at their mutual place of employment. Although we have no reason to believe that any intentional influence would occur, we feel that this is a tremendous conflict of interest and could, intentionally or not, sway Mr. Poolman’s votes. This conflict and Mr. Poolman’s lack of knowledge regarding the issues are the reasons that DIRECT PAC cannot endorse this candidate.
DIRECT PAC has also decided not to endorse James Adduci because it is clear that he has no knowledge of the issues facing Peachtree City. He intends to rely on his skills to do what’s right once in office. We do not agree with Adduci’s approach.
Listening to Judi Rutherford at our meeting and at the Rotary Forum, it became clear that she is informed of the issues and has taken an active interest in the actions of the City Council. She also has previous experience in local government that can serve her well on Peachtree City’s Council.
On the other hand, Ms. Rutherford is an employee of the Peachtree City Amphitheater and thus subject to conflicts of interest on issues regarding the Amphitheater and the Development Authority of Peachtree City. Nonetheless, we feel Ms. Rutherford is the best candidate running for Post 1 and we, therefore, endorse her candidacy.
