Lazers win WAGS title

They did it in dramatic style.
The Peachtree City 87 Lazers Elite traveled to Washington, D.C., recently and captured the championship in the prestigious WAGS Tournament. WAGS, the oldest and largest girls select soccer tournament in the world, is where the elite of youth soccer meet each fall to test their skills against the best.
And the Lazers were tested every step of the way. They had to go through 4 of the top 15 teams in the nation, and withstand three sets of penalty kicks in one day in order to earn the title.
Bolstered by their teammates’ awesome defensive play, Lazer goalkeepers Jenna Sturgill and Tina Ross stepped up big in the effort. Jenna Sturgill fought off numerous threats during the course of the matches, and Tina Ross stopped 6 penalty kicks in one day to preserve the win for the Lazers.
The WAGS championship is the most coveted title in girls youth soccer in the United States. The 380-team tournament is divided into 8 age groups, with three 16-team divisions in each age group. In the U-17 age group, the Lazers were grouped with 16 of the top 36 teams in the nation.
