Organizers pleased
with junior golf event
Last weekends
Peachtree City Junior Golf Championship was a great success, according
to tournament organizers.
This is the first time the Peachtree City Recreation Department
has attempted a golf championship for juniors, thanks to the kindness
of the Flat Creek Golf Club, who hosted the event, said tournament
director Art Sivertsen of the Recreation Department.
The weather was perfect and the competition was strong. In the 15-17-year-old
flight, Seth Bales from Fayetteville won the inaugural championship, shooting
a two-under-par 70 to win by six strokes over David Lineback of Douglasville.
Seth was in the drivers seat after his back-to-back birdies
on 11 and 12, said Sivertsen.
Matt Matala came in third, followed by Drew Atkinson and Jason Kimpel.
In the 13-14-year-old flight, Alan Kepple of Sharpsburg shot an 83 and
beat Justin King of Peachtree City by 3 strokes. Kepple wrapped it up
by only allowing one bogey on his last five holes. Nick Ward and Spencer
Bales tied for third, and Alex Hammond finished fifth.
In the 11-12-year-old 9-hole flight, lefthander Mark Buck of Peachtree
City shot 63, defeating his brother Mike Buck by three strokes.
