SCAT sends 2 to Southern Zone Championships

Lauren Cartwright and Brittany Stevens of the Southern Crescent Aquatic Team in Peachtree City were selected by Georgia Swimming as members of its Southern Zone Championship team.

The Georgia Zone team is composed of the top 48 swimmers in Georgia. Selection for the team is based upon a swimmer being one of the top six swimmers in his or her age group.

The Georgia Zone team competed July 30-Aug. 2 in a meet at the International Hall of Fame in Ft. Lauderdale against 12 other zone teams from West Virginia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, and Tennessee. Georgia’s team finished in second place.

Cartwright, 14, is the daughter of Chris and Mary Cartwright of Peachtree City. In addition to being selected for the Zone team, Lauren is the individual Long Course State Champion in the 200 butterfly. She holds SCAT team records in 50,100, 200, 400, and 800 freestyle, the 200 butterfly, the 200 breast stroke, and the 200 and 400 individual medley for Long Course. Short Course team records include the 50,100, 200, 500, and 1650 freestyle, 50, 100, and 200 breast stroke, 100 and 200 butterfly, and the 100, 200, and 400 individual medley. Lauren is a freshman at Starr’s Mill High.

Stevens, 17, is the daughter of David and Rose Ann Stevens of Peachtree City. Besides representing Georgia in the Southern Zone Championship, her other accomplishments in the water include team records in the 50 freestyle and the 100 and 200 butterfly for Long Course. In Short Course, she holds team records in the 50, 100, and 200 butterfly. She is a senior at Starr’s Mill.
