One drunk on a cart caused all this commotion; now let's watch our politicians

I attended the Peachtree City Parade and it was truly a great parade. As I sat outside the entrance of Village Park subdivision where I live, I pondered on what a great city we have. The sight of all the golf carts with so many people enjoying them brought to mind our current problem over drivers licenses to drive them.

Looking at all those people caused me to think about the fact that one drunken bum could cause a whole city that much trouble. Of course he didn't do it all by himself.

The conflict between state and local laws was a factor, and maybe Judge Sams could have administered the law differently, such as giving him all jail time.

Drunk drivers with long records should be removed from public streets and placed in jails a long time so that they can be removed from contact with alcohol.

I have lived a long time and I have seen and worked with a lot of drunks, all whom ruined their own lives and lives of those close to them. In spite of what some medics claim I believe that they can choose not to drink. After all they make a conscious choice to take that first drink!

Some time in the past I read somewhere that when you drive down an average road that 50 percent of the drivers coming toward you could be drunk or have drink in them. Scary, if true.

Our problems with golf carts are really not too many, some theft, some careless drivers, some litterers. Out of the total, the problem people are quite few! It would behoove us people of Peachtree City to keep a sharp eye on the politicians who are going to be handling our problem. Keep all of them in mind and reward those that are diligent in our behalf and vote against those that aren't.
