Seems driving courtesy went out with 8-tracks

Mr. Beverly, I applaud you for your "coming out" on the "left-lane laggards." I can't tell how many times I have encountered them myself, going less than the posted speed limit, and, as you said, riding side-by-side with each other as though they were holding hands!

I was taught by my parents that if you are not passing someone, get over! If someone wants to speed then it is not your responsibility to keep them from doing so. Simply move over and avoid any confrontation by angering that person.

While we are on the driving subject, what's the deal with folks in Fayette County not using turn signals? Do they think that this is such a close-knit community that everyone knows where they are going? Not only is it a courtesy, it is the law, whether turning or changing lanes, and preferably, before you reach your turn!

The police don't even use them, but they will issue a citation for doing 40 in a 35. I still believe a driver moved out of my way when I used my turn signal, thinking I was an emergency vehicle of some sort.

We have quite possibly become a society too busy to drive. We eat, talk on phones, apply makeup, read, even watch television, but you would be hard-pressed to find someone with the basic knowledge of road rules and common courtesy. A wave of "thanks" for letting someone enter the roadway went out with the 8-track tape player.

I could go on and on, but I'm sure there are many out there that are wanting to vent as well on this subject. Thank you again and for allowing me to "come out."

J. Russell
