Fayette archers bring home gold Young archers from across the United States competed in the 23rd Annual National JOAD (Junior Olympic Archery Development) Outdoor Championship Tournament June 26-29 in Denver.JOAD is the youth program sponsored by the National Archery Association and sanctioned by the United States Olympic Committee. The JOAD 23rd Annual National Championship Tournament attracted archers from all 50 states.The three-day tournament was shot under Federation Internationale de Tir a l'Arc (FITA) rules and consisted of shooting 36 arrows at four distances, totaling 144 arrows for a possible total score of 1440 points. Here are some of the outstanding performances by Georgia archers: Victoria Shore of Alpharetta took the Gold medal in the women's Bowman Recurve Division with a score of 1280.Victoria now holds the title of National Champion. Michael Barber of Stockbridge placed fourth in the men's Cadet division with a score of 1193. Joey Walker of Fayetteville placed fifth in the men's Bowman Recurve Division with a score of 1236. Kristen Brentnall of Atlanta finished 21st with a score of 831. All four Atlanta-area archers that shot the JOAD Nationals are members of the Fayetteville Nockbusters, a Fayette County-sponsored competitive archery club whose membership is open to any youth between the ages of 8 and 18.Members shoot on Saturdays at 9:30 a.m. at North Fayette Elementary School.
