State can't have it both ways: Reinstate golf cart tax credit

In all the hoopla that has been raised over the past couple of weeks about needing a drivers license to drive a cart, one issue has been overlooked.

It would seem to me that since the Georgia Court of Appeals has declared that a drivers license is required to operate any golf cart, that the Georgia DOT can no longer claim that electric-powered carts are not eligible for receiving the $5,000 tax credit that was passed by the Legislature a couple of years ago.

I'm not a lawyer and therefore am not offering any legal advice, but I think that everyone who owns an electric cart in the state of Georgia ought to be able to claim this credit. Maybe someone at your paper could look into this aspect of the court ruling and write an article about it.

Since I don't own a golf cart I have no personal interest in this issue.
