Steen named GUCA 2003-04 president

The Georgia Utility Contractors Association, Inc., recently elected Keith Steen of P.F. Moon & Company, Inc., as the 2003-2004 GUCA President at the GUCA 2003 Annual Conference in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

Steen resides in Peachtree City with his wife Terry and their four children and has been actively involved with GUCA through P.F. Moon & Company, Inc., for six years. During this time he has served on and chaired several committees, such as Conference, Education, Membership, Personnel and Policy and Planning. He was appointed as the 2002-2003 GUCA First Vice President in June 2002.

Also, Steen was awarded 2001-2002 Committee Chairman of the Year for his leadership of the GUCA Conference Committee. In addition, Keith has been instrumental in recruiting new members into GUCA, winning the 1999-2000 and 2001-2002 GUCA membership contests for recruiting new members.

P.F. Moon & Company, Inc. is also a past nominee for the GUCA Hard Hat Safety Award. Recently Steen was awarded 2003 Contractor Member of the Year for his tireless efforts in helping the association with recruitment and his support of the GUCA staff. He also received the Lifetime Membership Achievement Award for his recruitment of more than 25 new members in his lifetime.

Before moving to Georgia, Steen completed two years of study in the School of Engineering at Pennsylvania State University and went on to finish and graduate from Louisiana State University. He worked for a general contractor in Louisiana before coming on board at P.F. Moon in 1991. In less than 15 years he has become the vice president/owner of the company.

Steen believes one of the greatest business challenges facing the industry today is the lack of skilled employees. He is the safety director, personnel recruiter and supervisor of fleet equipment at P.F. Moon, which is why he understands the importance and need for competent employees. According to Steen, "It takes a tremendous amount of time to develop the necessary skills needed in people to bid, procure and manage a multi-million dollar project."

Steen will also serve with his newly elected board and officers that include: First Vice President Brent Scarbrough, Brent Scarbrough & Company, Inc.; Second Vice President Jeff Steele, Steele & Associates, Inc.; Secretary Randy Williams, Randy Williams Grading, Inc.; Treasurer Shirley Cooley, Rockdale Pipeline, Inc.; 2003-2005 Directors Mike Holt, Holt & Mahone Constructors, Inc.; Butch Griffin, Tommy L.
