To
appreciate taxes, we need more pain, not less
By Raymond J. Keating
On April 15, I went
to the dentist excuse me, the oral surgeon to have two teeth removed.
As if this were not painful enough, these extractions occurred on Tax
Day.

Assumptions
in column on gays need rethinking
Dr. Earl Tilford
is correct in saying that the representative from Pennsylvania holds
firm his religious beliefs and applies them to his political actions.
Misquote
leads to charge of gay bashing by Sen. Santorum
Sen. Rick Santorum
(R-PA), is now facing charges of "gay bashing" based on a
statement he made regarding a pending Supreme Court case on the Texas
sodomy law.
Attitudes
about gays changing
"The moral
arc of the universe is long, but it bends toward justice." Those
were the words of Martin Luther King, Jr. Perhaps no one knew better
the long and often bitter struggle for basic human rights than he. However,
Dr. King believed in the overall goodness of God and mankind and in
America's ability to ultimately find the justice that it sometimes withholds.
Chamber
meeting is attempt to foster good relations, not some sinister plot
"Before I say
anything else, I am a proud member of the Fayette County Chamber of
Commerce.
Wynnmeade
sympathizes with Golf View Dr.
I am writing to
comment on the ongoing Golf View Drive speeding traffic issues. I live
in Wynnmeade subdivision and our main street (Wynnmeade Parkway) is
the equivalent of [Interstate] 285. We can definitely sympathize with
the residents of Golf View.
Can
you help find recipes?
I have been receiving
recipe cards for a recipe box from Grandma's Kitchen for a year or longer.
Before the box was filled, however, the company sent me no more recipes.
Story
mischaracterized farm owners' attitudes
A recent article
[The Citizen, April 30] regarding the sale of our family's property
in Fayette County characterized our attitude towards the county as callous
and unconcerned.
Rivers
farm owner unfairly portrayed as arrogant, uncaring
I have had the displeasure
of reading this article and found it to be very offensive.
'Solution'
to a few kids' bad driving unfair to most
This is in response
to a letter to the editor from Skip Stephenson published in last Wednesday's
Citizen.
Thanks
to concerned citizens who aided after cart explosion
On Wednesday, April
23, I was returning from Flat Creek Golf Club on my golf cart, when
suddenly it lost power. My immediate reaction was to check for a loose
wire.
Divorce
not unpardonable, but it's still a painful sin
The Rev. John Hatcher's
last article was a well-intended attempt to grapple with the moral complexities
of divorce. I assume he was referring to the Catholic Church when he
talked about a denomination that refused communion to a remarried divorced
person. These are difficult issues, but let me see if I can clarify
a few things.
It's
those little mistakes . . .
Re: What is this
teacher teaching her students?
Moms,
you're the greatest
I have had an incredibly
full schedule over the last one and a half years. There have been regional
government meetings, council meetings, ceremonies, tournaments, charity
events, etc., and I have enjoyed them all. However, the one thing that
I have noticed loud and clear is the power of motherhood in our community.
Time and time again, you will find our local moms involved in every
one of the positive aspects of our lives.
