Aviation training center planned for South Fulton

Training International officials have unveiled plans to construct a $60 million aviation-training center near Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport.

Rezoning for Open Word Ministries approved

Members of Open Word Christian Ministries showed up in large numbers at Fairburn's City Council meeting Monday night to support their proposed rezoning for Public Service (PS) District.

Fairburn will have electronic election in November

The City of Fairburn will soon be going to electronic ballot for the November election. City Councilmen approved Monday night a contract with Fulton County for electronic election services for an amount not to exceed more than $5,000.

Local education centers granted accreditation

Two South Fulton early childhood education centers operated by Sheltering Arms Child Development and Family Support have been granted accreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

Landmark hosts Christian worldview and successful living conference

Recently Landmark Christian School hosted a four day event: the Christian Worldview and Successful Living Conference. Days 1-3 were offered to Landmark students in grades 9-12 and day 4 was offered to Landmark parents and community guests. Here is a recap of those full four days:

Landmark offers opportunities for students in music ministry

Landmark Christian middle school and upper school students are singing praise in a new way this year. Landmark students have put together Praise Teams for middle and upper school chapels. The praise teams were formed to create more opportunities for students to be involved in chapel. The upper school was first to get their band and singers together. They have worked to offer a freshly appealing worship atmosphere for the student body.

Fulton County one of the "best places" for music education

The Fulton County School System has been recognized for a fourth consecutive year in a nationwide survey of public and private school programs that identify the top 100 places to live in America for quality music education.

Cliftondale UMC to host gospel quartet

Cliftondale United Methodist Church in South Fulton County will host Southern Sanctuary, a gospel quartet from North Carolina, during the morning worship services Sunday, May 4, at 10:55 a.m. A love offering will be taken for the group and open communion will be celebrated.

PTC Skatepark To Open for BMX Bikes

Starting May 5, the Peachtree City Parks and Recreation Department will begin to make its skatepark available for use by BMX bikers.

High school sports briefs

The Starr's Mill Lady Panthers soccer team, ranked fifth in the state and seeded second in Region 4-AAAAA, closed out region play with a 7-0 win over Fayette County last Thursday. Shelley Wegrzyn scored three goals, all in the first half, and Tannah Castro added two goals in the second half. Lindsey Anderson and Beth Meadors also scored.

Community sports briefs

The Peachtree City Running Club's annual Peachtree City Kids' Fun Run is Saturday, May 3, at 9 a.m. at the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater. There is no entry fee and the one-mile event is open to all kids ages 5-12. Awards will be given to first-place finishers in each age group and gender.
