Baskin-Robbins offering free scoops

Baskin-Robbins' fourth annual "Free Scoop Night" event is tonight from 6-10 p.m.

For every free scoop served at participating locations, Baskin-Robbins will make a donation to First Book, a national nonprofit organization that provides free, new books to children from low-income families.

To date, Baskin-Robbins' Free Scoop Night donations have enabled First Book to distribute nearly one million new books to children across the United States.

"We're excited that this year through Free Scoop Night we can say thank you to our customers," said Stephen Loftis, field marketing manager for Baskin-Robbins. "This event also provides an opportunity for us to underscore the importance of reading and children's literacy."

With more than 3 million consumers expected to stop by participating stores nationwide to enjoy a free scoop of their favorite flavor, Baskin-Robbins expects to give out an equivalent of 208 scoops per second.

The primary goal of First Book is to work with existing literacy programs to distribute new books to children who, for economic reasons, have little or no access to books.
