Baskin-Robbins offering free scoops Baskin-Robbins' fourth annual "Free Scoop Night" event is tonight from 6-10 p.m. For every free scoop served at participating locations, Baskin-Robbins will make a donation to First Book, a national nonprofit organization that provides free, new books to children from low-income families. To date, Baskin-Robbins' Free Scoop Night donations have enabled First Book to distribute nearly one million new books to children across the United States. "We're excited that this year through Free Scoop Night we can say thank you to our customers," said Stephen Loftis, field marketing manager for Baskin-Robbins. "This event also provides an opportunity for us to underscore the importance of reading and children's literacy." "For the fourth year in a row, Baskin-Robbins is making a terrific commitment to First Book, to literacy and to children," said Kyle Zimmer, President of First Book. "Thanks to the people of Baskin-Robbins, children across America will have wonderful bedtime stories today and brighter futures tomorrow." With more than 3 million consumers expected to stop by participating stores nationwide to enjoy a free scoop of their favorite flavor, Baskin-Robbins expects to give out an equivalent of 208 scoops per second. Washington D.C.-based First Book is a national nonprofit organization whose single mission is to give children from low-income families the opportunity to read and own their first new books. The primary goal of First Book is to work with existing literacy programs to distribute new books to children who, for economic reasons, have little or no access to books. In the last two years alone, First Book has provided almost 15 million new books to children in need in hundreds of communities nationwide.
