There will be a lot of great music at the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater this year and not all of it will be rock and roll. Amphitheater Director Donna Romeo announced a three concert jazz series that will take place on one Saturday a month starting in August.

"We have spent a lot of time looking at a lot of different performers and talking to some local jazz stations and I feel like we have a terrific line-up, " said Romeo. "There is a little something for every form of jazz lover in the series."

The jazz series will kick off on Saturday, Aug. 9 with a concert from Lou Rawls. Rawls is a Grammy Award winning artist who is best known for the hits "You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine," "At Last," and "Room With a View." Carol Welsman, Canada's 2002 Jazz Vocalist of the Year will perform on Saturday, Sept. 6. She has recently released the album "The Language of Love" which features a mix of jazz standards as well as original material. Some of the songs she will sing in her concert will be "Swing Ladies Swing," "Lucky to be Me" and "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square."

The finale of the jazz series will feature Spyro Gyra, a group that blends, jazz, fusion and pop. They have been one of the most famous instrumental ensembles in jazz for over 25 years and are famous for songs such as "Morning Dance," "Feeling Fine" and "Your Touch."

Tickets for the series will go on sale Tuesday, Apr. 29 at 9 a.m. Tickets are $80 for stadium or lawn seats, $600 for picnic tables and $800 for gold tables. There is a $3 handling fee per order. Phone 770-631-0630 or visit www.amphitheater.org for more information.
