Offshoot presents beloved children's tale

"Stuart Little" was a beloved story long before it hit the silver screen with a computer animated mouse voiced by Michael J. Fox.

The story, written by E.B. White, is about a mouse born to human parents in New York City. Stuart lives with his parents, his brother, George, and Snowbell the cat. Stuart gets into many adventures in the book but his biggest adventure is finding his missing bird friend, Margalo. "Stuart Little" and "Charlotte's Web" were both winners of the 1970 Laura Ingall's Wilder Medal for books in 1970.

Offshoot Productions' production of "Stuart Little" is directed by guest director Enda O. Breadon. Breadon has worked locally as an actor, director and teacher at the Alliance Theatre, Georgia Ensemble Theatre, Atlanta's First Stage and Process Theatre among others. He is currently the guest artist at St. Pius X Catholic High School. The show, adapted from White's book by Joseph Robinette, features a colorful set and big pants costuming. It also features the ensemble of actors playing different roles and taking turns as the narrator. The only actor who stays the same is Suzanne Benson, who plays Stuart.

The cast includes Fayetteville residents Amanda Abrams, Brad Cottle, Lesley Howe, and Lori Walters, Peachtree City resident Jesse Sheridan, Fairburn resident Vanessa Meglich and Sharpsburg resident Marcy Williams, as well as Atlanta resident Jen Turner.

"Stuart Little" will be presented at the Fayette Family YMCA off of Ga. Highway 54, between Peachtree City and downtown Fayetteville. While there will be conventional seating, children are invited to sit close to the stage on a carpeted area. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. on Fridays, 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturdays and 3 p.m. on Sundays through May 4. There will be weekday shows at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 1.

Tickets for the show are $6 in advance and $7 at the door. Advance tickets are available at the Peachtree City and Fayette County libraries.
