Hill resigns as president of Fayette Thrift Shop; will pursue Christian counseling Janice Hill, president of The Fayette Thrift Shop Inc. and one of its most committed volunteers, has resigned her position in order to devote more time to the Christian premarital and marriage counseling that she and her husband, Donnie, offer through their church. "She will be sorely missed," remarked Eileen Patton, founder and member of the board of directors who has remained active with the organization during its 13 years of existence. Hill assumed presidency of the Thrift Shop in 2000. She has been responsible for overseeing the day-to-day running of the Fayetteville shop and heading up the 15-member board. Jennifer Barnes will take over the presidency and the coordination of more than 100 volunteers who staff the shop where good used clothing and household items are sold inexpensively. Patton ticked off a few of the "above and beyond" contributions that Hill made or directed: Hand-painted murals decorate the children's and women's clothing area. Blue paint and coordinating wallpaper brighten up the bookshelves and workroom. New clothing racks make items for sale more easily accessible. In the volunteers' break room a colorful bulletin board displays thank-you notes, changes in procedures, work schedules and information on volunteers who are out due to illness. "The word 'special' is often heard from volunteers describing Janice," Patton said. "Whether it be in her personal or business life, no decision is made without prayerful thought. If she knows of a co-worker's concern, it becomes her own as well. She takes time to stay in touch by phone, and with card and visits to volunteers that are ill." Hill is a resident of Riverdale. She and her husband are members of World Changers Church International in College Park. For more information about The Fayette Thrift Shop, 740 N. Glynn St., call 770-460-7100. |
